Memorial Exercise"; Those who attended tho memorial exercises at Miss IJrown'n school yes terday afternoon enjoyed a treat. First on the programme was the read ing of an essay, in which many points of interest were given regarding tho life and education of tho doparted poet; this was followed by quotations, declamations, and solect readings from his most familiar writings. Tiio child ren did great credit both to themselves and teacher. And tho hour spoilt in that school-runm yesterday afternoon will bo long and pleasantly remem bered by both pupils and visitors. Day, on a charge of larceny of 228, fathoms of web, the prisoner was held to answer, under bonds of 8500 and being unablo to furnish that amount ho wan re manded to jail. He will have quite a stay in the bastile as the court does not meet till August. It has been decided by tho engi neers in charge of tho Canadian Pacific, to adopt tho Moberly or Co lumbia river route, which will cross tho mountains about 100 miles north of tho boundary line, instead of tho moro northerly route heretofore favor ed. Tho Moberly ronto will cross the Columbia twice at the great bend. Fifteen vessels cleared from Astoria during the month of March. These vossels carried 70,553 barrels of flour, 744 cases of salmon, and 585; 105 bushels of wheat: the aggregate value was 8909,530. The Columbia river foreign exports for '82 have, thus far, been to the- valuo of 3,123:413 not a bad showing for three months.
