called to tho chair and the Astoria
delegation occupied seats at tho head
of tho table.
Wo hoar some talk of a stock
company being organized to build a
theater. It can sisily bo demonstrat
ed that such an institution would pay,
and thereforo it ought not be difficult
to raiso the funds. Thoro are two
things in tho way of public buildings
that Astoria needs badly. One is a
new schoolhoase, tho other, a now
theater.

M. E. Chuicli, l.i3t Sunday evening
was an occasion of pleasurAo those
present. An able address w as doli vcred
by Rev. J. V. Milligan: tho leading
idea of his remarks was, that no ono
can do anything better in this world
than to make himself as humane, in
telligent and charitable) as his nature
will allow, and that charity toward
others and i due regard for oth
er's welfare foims an important part
of the Christian creed.
He wa3 followed by Rev. John
Parsons in a fine discourse, the key
note of which was, that personal effort
was needed in Christian work, and
that lio matter hoxi humble such
effort, earnestness and persistence in
the right would crown the end with
triumph. E. C. Holden, President of
the Association, followed in a few
well-chosen remarks, relativo to the
past and probable future of tho useful
association ho has been so long con
nected with. The gratifying stato-
montvas made that tho institution
was out of debt, was.iu a live, healthy
condition, and looked forward to new
endeavors in Christian work that
would fittingly illustrate that theirs
was not so much an idlo precept as
au active duty. Rav. Parsons then
pronounced a bene'diction and tho
large audience dispersed.
Launch of the Barge.
At ono o'clock yesterday afternoon,
"No. Ono,'" tho first of tho "Astoria

The groat question in tho minds of

1 love thee, 1 love thee, as dearly as v hen

Yet affection survives both. hfhus

No babe could nnosoon a fond mother's

More calmly cofuling than f do on
