Gearhart purchased the building sold by Sheriff Twilight on execution yesterday. The price paid was 350 00. It is upon Mr. Gearhart's lot, on Chonamus street. Fishermen's connnittee met at the room of J. G. Robeson for the trans action of business. Members present, J. G. Robeson, President, W. J. Weber, Secretary andGeorgeWilliams. A quorum being present, the com mittee proceeded to business, and ro soh'od as follews: Whereas, there is a fund necessary to oppose the fishing law in the state corts, and if necessary to carry the case to the supreme court of the Uni ted States; therefore be it Resolved, that the sum contributed bT each fisherman, owner of boat and net, seine, weir or trap, be as follews: Each fisherman SI W owner of a boat ami net 2 00 sein 2 " ' weir or trap JO WO Resolved, that each person comply ing with the above shall be entitled to receive a printed protest to he ilaced on file with the fish commissioner or any deputy. The Oregonian says: Captain Carrol, of" the steamship Great Re public, has issued an order to the officers and employes to give no fur ther washing or work to chinamen, under pain of dismissal. The Fallinburg has completed discharging her cargo, which consisted of 50 bales of pnlu, 20 .cacki coffee, 500 sacks rice and 1,379 kegs of sugar. She will have quick dispatch for Hon olulu. See adverfcisment. In consequence of a failure to elect, Mr. Ben. Young holds over as director, and Mr. T. P. Powers as clerk of school district Ho. 9, upper Astoria. The tax-payers levied a tax of 2 mills on the dollar for school pur poses for the ensuing term. Dr. F. Cnmg informs us that lie has concluded to remove to Forest Grove in a .short time, for the purpose of receiving the benefits of the Pacific University in the education of his daughters. The best wishes of his nu merous friends in Astoria will attend him. Last Thursday night some wretches visited the hen house of Robert Tren chard and stole every chicken but one. The State of California also wears a hsad light lighted by electric light, and her engine rooms, saloon, etc, are lighted in the same manner.
