F. FKRRELL. City Sexton. Asiorhu Oregon, Sept. 20. 1877. PROCLAMATION. BV Til K Pi:K5I iknt of thr l". S., ) Washington C'it , Oct. a, 1R77. s ' The completed circle of summer and winter ced time and harvest has biouglit us to the accustomed reason ar which religious people celebrate with prais and lunuksKhiitg tin enduring mercy of Almighty God. Tins de vout and public confession of tbe coustuut attendance of man upon the Divine Father for all good gifts of hie and health, of peace and happiness, so caily in our history nuulc a habit of by our people, finds in the survey of the past year new grounds fw its jovful and grateful innnifestal'ons m all the fuViujjx which descend upon benignant seasons. This has been a memorable year over the wide territory of our country. With all its diver--mty of soil and climate and products, the earth has yielded a bountiful return to the la bor of the husbandman. The health of tbe people has been blighted by no prevalent or widespread dihoavs. No great disasters of shipwreck upon our coasts or to our com merce on the'seas have brought loss and hard ship to merchants or mariner; and the un clouded happiness of community with sym pathetic sorrow. In all that concerns our sticnglh and peace and greatness as a im--iion, m all that touches th permanence and security of our government and the beniti cent institutions on which it rests ; in all that allects the character and dispositions of our people and tests our capacity to enjoy and uphold the equal and free condition ol society is now permanent and unhersal thioughout tho land. The experience of the last year is conspicuously marked by the protect big prov idence of God, and is full of jnomise and hope for coming generations. I ndcr: sense of these infinite obligations to the Groat Ruler of times and seasons and events, 3cr its humbly :iseribe it to our own faults and frail ties, if any degree of that perfect concord jmuI happiness, peace and justice wnich such Kreat mercies should diffuse through the hearts and lives of our people do not alto gether ami always and everywhere prevail. Let us with one spirit and one oiec lift up praise and thanksghing to God for his mani fold goodness to our land, and his manifest care tor the nation. Now. therefore. I. Rutherford R.
