CH) m Jp& gailoj QslSXXML ASTOKIA Oct. 27, IS77 Spend Your Money at Home. The following are the most forcible rea sons why you should pend your money at heme: 1st, It is your home; you cannot im prove it much by taking it away to spend -or invent. 2d, There is no way of improving a place so much as by encouraging good mer chants, good tchools and good people to bettle among you, and this cannot he done unless you spend your money at home. 3d, Spend your money at home, for there is where you generally get it. It is your duty. 4, Spend your money at home because when it is necessary lor j'ou to get credit, it is oi your town uiercimius you iinvc m i get it, ana tney must wait lor in money. "Therefore, when you have the cash, spend it at home. oth, Spend your money at home. It will make belter merchants of your mer chants; they can and will keep better assortments and sell at lower rates than if the only business they can do is what is credited out, while the money goes to other places. Gth, Spend your money at home. Set .the example now. Buy your dry goods, groceries, meats, nnd everything at home, and you will see a wondertnl change in a ihort time in tho business outlook of the place; therefore, deal with your home merchants. 7th, Spend your money at bom e. "What do vou eain by coine oil'? Count the cost; see what you could have done at home by letting your merchants have the cash. Strike a balance and see if you would not have been ju-t as well oil', besides helping your merchants. Sth, Spend your money at home. Your merchants arc your neighbors, your friends; they stand hy you in sickness are your associates. "Without your trade they cannot keep your business. Xo stores, then no banks, no one wanting to "buy property to settle on and build up your place. To Our Readers. If all who write us in regard to sub scriptions and business will observe the following rules they will prevent annoyance and misunderstanding by all cencerned: 1. Always date your letter or postal card, giving postoflice and state. 2. When you want the address of a pa per changed give us the name of the post office to which t:.c paper is sent a- well as that of the one you want it changed to. 3. Alwavs write the names of subscrib ers and their postollice addresses; so plain that they rray be easily read. 4. Alwavs seal vour letter before hand ing it ix to the postollice. ti. Never send currency in a common letter. Either register your letter or send 03J express; or what is better, purchase a money order. The expenso is insignifi cant compared with the Tisk run in send ing currency in an ordinary letter. This is at least our judgment, based on the great number of complaii ts we receive in regard to letters which the writers say they mailed to us, but which we never re ceived. STThe Cincinnati Gazette says: The publishers ot American newspapers, if they would follow the example of the Time,, would largely incrpae their reve nues.: and why not ? "Why bhould not candidates for office, writers of compli mentary resolution, heros of cane pre sentations, and the like, pay for the space they occupy, as business men da? There is far too much tree advertising in the reading columns of American newt-papcis for the good of the publishers or the bene iit of subscribers. We commend this sugget'on to our fricnd of the press.1' J. II. D. GRAY, "Wholesale and retail dc:tlcr,in. FLO'JR, FEED, GATS, HAY, STRAW. WOOI, etc..
