Thais was born Sept. 4, 1923, to Henry C. and Susan Valiska Korntved in Salinas, Calif. She grew up in the Sali- nas Valley on a farm out- side Greenfield. She had twp sisters, June Kornt- ved Deome and Lorna Korntved Arnold, and one brother, Don Kornt- ved. Before passing away, Thais was the only sur- viving sibling. At times, her nickname was Ti. Thais’ first job, while still in high school, was in a local bakery in King City, Calif. She married Gene Dorman Thomas when they were just out of high school on Dec. 6, 1941. They were plan- ning to travel and work as they went. They woke up the next day to the Bombing of Pearl Har- bor, Dec. 7, 1941. Thais also had planned to do more schooling, but instead they start- ed their family, having three daughters, Sue Etta Thomas Abernathy, Mollie Marie Thomas Smith and Katherine Nina Thomas Johnson, and raising them in Cambria, Calif. Gene died of ALS in 1991. Of their three daughters, the old- est, Susan, has already passed. Surviving Thais are Mollie and Kather- ine, three grandchildren: Randall Coots, Sarah Bous and Daniel Bous, and five great-grand- children: Andrew Bous, Nicolas Bous, Elise Bous, Aiden Leslie and Sophia Leslie.
