2A | SATURDAY, JULY 10, 2021 | SIUSLAW NEWS On The Record SNAP to allocate emergency allotments in July SALEM—Most Orego- nians who receive Sup- plemental Nutrition As- sistance Program (SNAP) benefits will receive emer- gency allotments in July. The federal government has approved emergency allotments every month since March 2020, to give SNAP recipients addi- tional support during the COVID-19 pandemic. In July, approximately 465,000 SNAP households will receive approximately $66.5 million in emergency allotments in addition to their regular SNAP bene- fits. “We are grateful to have the opportunity to provide emergency benefits to most SNAP households in Oregon,” said Dan Haun, director of the Oregon De- partment of Human Ser- vices (ODHS) Self-Suffi- ciency Program. “We also know that many Orego- nians are still struggling to meet their basic needs due to the COVID-19 pandem- ic, and we encourage them contact our partners at 211 and the Oregon Food Bank for support during this dif- ficult time.” Emergency allotments will be available on July 13 for current SNAP house- holds. New SNAP house- holds will receive the emer- gency allotments July 30 or Aug. 3. If you are a SNAP house- hold and your income or the number of people in your household has changed, that could impact your benefits. County seeks volunteers for Commission Redistricting Committee The Lane County Board of Commissioners is re- quired to periodically draw new boundary lines for the five Lane County Commissioner positions. The board is further re- quired to form an Inde- pendent Redistricting Committee (IRC) and pre- pare at least two but not more than four proposed redistricting plans in or- dinance form for adoption by the Lane County Board of Commissioners, as re- quired by the Lane County Home Rule Charter. The new commission- er boundary lines must be drawn is such a way as to not deny any citizen equal rights. This process is called redistricting and the Lane County Home Rule Charter requires that it be done not less than ev- ery 10 years. The bound- aries were last drawn on Oct. 26, 2011. The Lane Charter also requires that the new com- missioner boundary lines be adopted in the form of an ordinance by the Lane County Board of Com- missioners. Individuals selected will be contrib- uting in the formation of these boundary options. Meetings: The schedul- ing of meetings will depend upon receipt of United States Census data, and are estimated to average two per month through the end of the year. Membership: 15 regular members and three alter- nate members. Geographic membership: Must be a resident of Lane County at the time of ap- pointment. Every reason- able effort will be made to select membership from different geographic areas of Lane County. Other member require- ments: Applicants must complete an ethics/conflict of interest form.
