Fred Meyer home of new bulk
bottle, can redemption site
On Friday, Oregon Bot-
tleDrop and Florence Fred
Meyer hosted the grand
opening of the first bulk
bottle and can redemp-
tion location in Florence
with a ribbon-cutting event
that included Rep. Boomer
Wright.
This new BottleDrop
network drop location will
allow areas residents to par-
ticipate in the very popular
Green Bag program and will
open up new fundraising
opportunities for local non-
profits through the Blue Bag
program. The BottleDrop
network drop location will
make it fast and easy for
Central Coast residents to
return, redeem and recycle
redeemable beverage con-
tainers in special 13-gallon

BottleDrop Green Bags,
which can be purchased the
at the Florence Fred Meyer
store.
Customers can also sign
up for a BottleDrop account
at the store kiosk, and print
bag tag labels with QR codes
linking the bags to their ac-
counts.
Then they simply tag their
bags, fill them with empty
Oregon 10-cent refund con-
tainers, and drop them off
at the new BottleDrop net-
work drop location. Their
containers are counted and
credited to their accounts
within seven days.
BottleDrop is operated by
the Oregon Beverage Recy-
cling Cooperative (OBRC),
which introduced the Green
Bag program in 2010.

riday morning (May 21) was mostly clear skies over
Florence, and part of those skies included AJ Shervin of
Shervin’s Automotive executing his first solo flight. His solo
came after only 4.2 hours of training. His wife and sons were
there to watch and congratulate Shervin on his achieve-
ment, which included the time-honored tradition of cutting
off his shirttail (right).

Working with an inter-

San Francisco to West Vir-

waiting to be released.”
At first, she concentrated
on college. When she re-
tired and moved to Oregon,
she began working with
hand-built ceramics and
then took a weaving class.
She was hooked.
