Due to COVID-19 re- strictions, citizens will not be able to attend meetings in person. Interested cit- izens can listen and view the meeting through the ‘GoToWebinar’ platform. Oregon Health Authority posts highest weekly count of coronavirus cases The Oregon Health Authority released its COVID-19 Weekly Report Thursday, which showed that during the week of Monday, Oct. 26, through Sunday, Nov. 1, OHA re- corded 3,542 new cases of COVID-19 infection — up 34 percent from last week’s tally of 2,642. This is the second con- secutive week daily case counts set a record high for the pandemic. The number of newly tested Oregonians rose to 34,591 and the percent- age of positive tests rose sharply to 8.4 percent. Thirty-seven Orego- nians were reported to have died in association with COVID-19—com- pared to 27 the previous week and 160 were hospi- talized. People aged 20 to 49 accounted for the largest percentage of infection at 56 percent, despite ac- counting for 39 percent of the total population. Persons younger than 30 accounted for 38 percent of the cases. People over age 80 ac- counted for 50 percent of COVID-19 associated deaths and people over 70 accounted for 74 percent of deaths associated with the illness. Schools are not ma- jor drivers of COVID-19 spread across Oregon. Cases are appearing at schools because there is more community spread. This week’s report re- flects the statewide trend of sharply rising cases, with 13 schools provid- ing in-school instruction that that had at least one case in a student or staff/ volunteer that attended or worked during their infec- tious or exposure period. The number of reported cases in Lane County have decreased over the past week, however, with the number of cases averaging between 22 and 28 cases per day, compared to as many as 68 cases the pre- vious week. In the 97439 zip code, the number of cases rose slightly from 31 in recent weeks to 34.
