The program is sim- ple: teenagers fill out a list of needs and wants on a paper ornament, which are then placed on a small tree in the Twin Lakes Store. Any customer or com- munity member who wants to help can go to the store, take an orna- ment and purchase items for the kids. Sometimes people purchase every- thing on the list, some- times it’s just a few items — or even just one. “Whatever someone can afford is appreciat- ed,” said Ambrosio, who explained that the wish lists are detailed with color and size preferenc- es, including a teenager’s wants vs needs. “I do en- courage the teens to ask for the moon on their wish lists. “After all, it’s Christ- mas. This year’s drive-by distribution will take the place of the annual par- ty. “These young adults need things,” Ambrosio said. “They get jaded at Christmas. I wanted to put the spirit in their hearts. As to why they ask for it, the answer is simple. “They just don’t have it,” Crowder said. Last updated 10/28/20. SILTCOOS and TAHKENITCH LAKES: Coho Anglers are starting to catch a few coho in Siltcoos and Tahkenitch lakes. These fisheries typi- cally pick up in late October, peak in November, and fish well into December. The next big rain event will bring more fish into the lake and improve the fishing. Last updated 10/28/20. ALSEA RIVER: Fall Chinook, cutthroat trout • Reminder: The dead- line for salmon fishing on the Alsea River is River Edge boat ramp located at river mile 28. This is relatively low in the system and is well below Fall Creek and the popular steelhead bank access on the N. Fk. of the Alsea River. Know where you are on the river before you start to fish for fall Chinook. Fall Chinook fishing has e v a S slowed down on the Alsea River as of late. The fish that moved up into the river a few weeks ago are now up to the spawning grounds leaving some fish staging in the estuary wait- ing for more rain. Fish will continue to hold in the estuary until we get the next significant rain event to send them upstream. Expect similar condi- tions for the next couple of weeks until the weather pattern changes. Anglers are reminded that due to low forecasted returns for the 2020 season bag limits have been reduced. The bag limit for the Alsea River is 1 wild Chinook per day and 5 per year for the 2020 season. Cutthroat trout fishing closed Oct. 31 on the Alsea River as well as all of the other mid-coast streams. This is still a great time of year to catch some cut- throat trout before it closes for the winter. Last updat- ed 10/28/20. SILETZ RIVER: Summer steelhead, fall Chinook, cutthroat trout Summer steelhead fish- ing is still slow but condi- tions are good right now to catch a late summer steel- head. The recent fall rains have cooled the water tem- peratures and will have the summer steelhead on the bite once again. Fall Chinook fishing has slowed down on the Siletz River as of late. Many of the fish that moved up into the river a few weeks ago have now moved onto the spawning grounds and above the salmon fishing deadline which is located in the town of Siletz at Illahee boat ramp. There are still some fish staging in the estuary wait- ing for the next rain event to move upriver. Expect more of the same until we get the next sig- nificant rain event to move the fish around. Cutthroat trout fishing closed Oct. 31 in the Siletz basin. The 4-mile bridge (aka Steel Bridge) in the Siletz gorge is open to motorized vehicles on the weekends only. Anglers can walk/ bike in the road during the weekdays. WILSON RIVER: Chinook, steelhead Fall Chinook fishing was decent last week on the lower Wilson. With the river getting low and clear and not much rain in sight it will probably be slow this week.
