The Kiwan- is Club of Florence installed the flags as part of its flag sponsorship program. In a post on its Facebook page, the club said, “Happy Birth- day U.S. Coast Guard Station Siuslaw River! Enjoy the new flag day in your honor. We appreciate all you do in and around our community.” In response, Station Siuslaw River replied, “Thank you Florence!” Central Coast Connection to feature Heldt Cordone’s photo of Heceta Head Lighthouse Pacific Publishing re- cently selected a winning photograph to adorn the cover of the 30th edition of Central Coast Connection. Florence’s locally produced business directory and phone book will be mailed next month to about 16,000 residents on the central coast. Production deadline is Aug. 10. The photo of Heceta Head Lighthouse, taken by Flor- ence photographer Deborah Heldt Cordone, was select- ed from a field of 59 entries from 24 photographers in a contest coordinated by the Florence Regional Arts Alli- ance (FRAA). In June, Pacific Publish- ing issued a “call to artists” for photographic images that reflected the central coast locale — from Yach- ats to Reedsport and east to Deadwood — for the cover of the 30th anniversary cov- er.
