2A | WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22, 2020 | SIUSLAW NEWS On The Record OBITUARIES BLUE—Alfred Alton Blue was born Feb. 23, 1931, in Hotchkiss, Colo., to Mollie Griffin. He spent most of his early years with his mother and stepfather, Roy Blue, in Green Riv- er, Utah, on the farm. He attended Utah State Universi- ty until he was called into the Alfred Blue U.S. Navy, where he served in the Korean War from January 1951 until November 1954. In November 1954, he married Claudia Weaver and they had six children: Michael, Lisa, Jennifer, Da- vid, Joanna and Elizabeth. They lived in California, where he continued his schooling and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Long Beach State College. In 1969, Alfred and Claudia sadly were di- vorced. Eventually, he met Lynette Jenkins while at- tending school at Brigham Young University and they married in July 1971. They were blessed with three children: Melissa, Jonathan and Timothy. They began their life to- gether in Utah but, after 15 years, moved to Bellevue, Wash. While there, Alfred earned a Master of Arts de- gree in psychology at An- tioch University in Seattle. He also earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Holistic Nu- trition from Clayton Col- lege located in Birming- ham, Ala. In 2005, after retiring as an insurance claims adjust- er — a job he held much of his life — he moved with this wife to Florence, Ore. He was a very intelligent man and also very kind and often entertaining. For years, he also did a lot of singing, sounding very much like Bing Crosby. In fact, he was often called “Der Bingle.” The past two years he has had a few health issues that definitely slowed him down. He passed away very quickly and peacefully at home Jan. 15, 2020. He will be missed but we will see him again. Services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. CUTTING —Emily Elizabeth “Dea” Cutting (Deathe) passed away the morning of Dec. 5, 2019; she will be a brilliant addi- tion to Heaven. Emily was born to Mel- vin and Paloma Deathe on Aug. 10, 1932, in Cali- fornia. She was adored by her two sisters, Bernice and Paloma Emily joined the U.S. Marine Corps. after grad- uation. E m i l y married Richard Cutting on Sept. 21, 1956. Togeth- er, they Emily owned a Cutting Shell gas station in Goldfield, Nev. They soon moved back to their hometown of Cas- tro Valley, where they start- ed a family before moving to Oregon in 1968. Emily and Richard settled in Flor- ence in 1989. Emily moved to Shore- wood Senior Living after Richard passed away in 2002. Her lively spirit was appreciated and loved by the many friends she made there. Together, Emily and Richard have three chil- dren: Timothy Cutting, who lives in Florence with his wife Maria; Lorelei Kry- zanek, who lives in Bend, Ore.; and Ruby Starr, who lives in Pflugerville, Texas with her husband Thomas. She also has 12 grandchil- dren and five great-grand- children. Emily enjoyed many long talks with all of her family. She always had a beautiful smile and always saw the bright side of everything. She cheered up every room she was in and every per- son she spoke to. She loved being a part of the Siuslaw Toastmasters and received accolades for her speeches and participation. Emily was a volunteer for several organizations, working with the Scouts for several years. She was an active participant in polit- ical and other campaigns. She was a powerful spirit in a physical body. Her family is sure that her spirit now resides in an eternal place with beauty and she is surely brighten- ing up all her friends and family from there. Burns’s Riverside Chap- el Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrange- ments. WILDS—Gladys Pearl Wilds passed away peace- fully the morning of Jan. 4, 2020, with her two loving daughters at her side. She was born in Paradise, Mont., on May 24, 1936, the youngest of seven chil- dren to Alvin and Gladys Palmer. She loved the out- doors as a child and, as a teen, was involved in vol- leyball, yearbook and oth- Gladys er school Wilds activities at Maupin High School, graduating in 1955. She loved dancing and met her future husband, Richard Terry Wilds, at a community dance. They married in 1956 and had 60 years together before his passing. They had 3 children: Henry Franklin Wilds (deceased 1974), Cynthia Irene Dochylo and Lynne Marie Twombly. Gladys liked traveling, having her family around her and was an excellent seamstress who sewed many of her daughters’ clothes. She also was a wonderful cookie baker. She is survived by her two daughters, sons-in-law, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Springwater Cemetery on Jan. 25, 2020, at noon. It will be followed by a reception at the Caza- dero Restaurant in Estaca- da, Ore. Burns’s Riverside Chap- el Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrange- ments. MILLER—A celebration of life for Marilyn V. Miller will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, from 1 to 3 p.m., in the Meeting Hall yurt at Hon- eyman State Park on Ca- nary Road.
