Sheriff’s office releases Saturation Patrol results Lane County Sheriff ’s Office deputies conducted overtime saturation patrols during the Christmas/ New Year’s holiday with a fo- cus on reducing impaired driving and related vehicle crashes and injuries. These patrols were grant funded through the Ore- gon Department of Trans- portation Safety Division. During this two-and-a- half-week saturation peri- od, grant-funded deputies made a total of 6 arrests for Driving Under the Influ- ence of Intoxicants (DUII). There were an addition- al 12 DUII arrests in this time period by deputies on straight time (not grant funded) with 3 of those arrests involving traffic crashes. Deputies also issued the following citations during the saturation patrols: • 6 Driving While Sus- pended • 11 Speeding • 3 Distracted Driving • 1 Failure to Use Inter- lock Device • 1 Failure to Use Appro- priate Child Safety Seat • 14 Other Citations • 65 Warnings • 7 Arrests There were 50 hours of grant-funded overtime worked by deputies this We specialize in helping people get along with people year as compared to 36 hours last year. City to host State of the City, Services Expo The City of Florence in- vites members of the com- munity to attend the 2020 State of the City and City Services Expo on Thurs- day, Jan. 30, at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St. Join the community as it and a loving sister. A service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held today, Jan. 11, beginning at 1 p.m., at Burns’ Riverside Chapel in Florence. SOLBRIG —Donna- jean Shirley Solbrig (aka “Smack” and “Bursaw”), 72, passed away Dec. 22, 2019, at home surrounded by family. She was born Nov. 14, 1946, to her mother and father, Paul and Shirley Smack, born in Minneap- olis, Minn. She was one of four chil- dren with sister Marlene, brother Lawrence (de- ceased) and her sister Col- leen. Donnajean had four children: Lisa Chapman (Bursaw), Rebecca Russell (Bursaw), Dale Bursaw and Lawrence (Bear) Bursaw (deceased). She also had nine grand- children: Cheyann, Jacob, Hunter, Joshua, Chase, Nicole, Liam, Logan and ibrary.org www.SiuslawL 32 541-9 97-31 daughter, Suzi, until her re- tirement at age 80. Shirley loved working with the public and met many people who adored her. Shirley was always a homemaker who loved to cook, bake, garden and can. Extended family and friends would stop by to visit and Shirley would in- sist on feeding them; her pies were incredible! Shirley’s greatest joy was her family: her children, 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was a “regular” at the casino, where everyone knew her. She was adamant about “scratching her tick- ets” and picking up her “freebies.” Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Walt; her parents; her six brothers: Clyde, Bill, Dewey, Ralph, Willis and Jimmy; three sisters: Lillian (Toots), Virginia (Vo) and Bonnie (Bundt); her daughter, Mary (Brog) Schmitt; her grandson, Jimmy Schmitt; and a great-granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Suzi) and CHECK OUT (WE EVEN GAMES.) BOARD BROG—Shirley (Mill- er) Brog, 94, passed away peacefully at home Dec. 30, 2019. Shirley was born Aug. 29, 1925, in Richland, Wash., to John and Velma Miller. She was the eighth of 11 chil- dren. T h e y m o v e d to Ten- mile, Ore., Shirley Brog when she was very young, and she attended the small Ten- mile School. Shirley attended Wald- port High School while liv- ing with family and friends. After graduation, she was a waitress at Beulah’s Restau- rant in Yachats. Shirley met Walter C. Brog and they were mar- ried April 2, 1946. They had four children. Shirley and Walt owned several grocery stores in Brick- erville, Drain and Dallas, Ore.
