Eight trained Commu- nity Collectors, part of the church’s Sacred Earth Team, and seven Master Recyclers from Florence, set up six stations in the church park- ing lot on the last Sunday in October. Their job: to greet the public with instructions on how to separate what oth- erwise would have gone into the waste stream but, with help, can now be re-pro- cessed. On hand to assist with traffic were volunteers from the Florence Police Auxilia- ry. Five cubic yards of plastics — translated into two pick- up truckloads and a stuffed SUV — were rounded up for transit to Eugene, which processing. At the other end, the integrity of the collection gives proces- sors a clean, valuable prod- uct that can be put to other uses. The success of the Oct. 27 event has prompted the Sa- cred Earth Team to conduct another collection in January 2020. Organizers have urged the public to watch for the announcement and spread the news. This two-day workshop, Nov. 12- 13, will focus on culinary and agricultural tourism devel- opment in the Central Coast region, including the com- munities of Dunes City, Flor- ence, Mapleton, Lincoln City, Yachats, Waldport, Seal Rock, Toledo, Newport, Siletz, Otter Rock, Depoe Bay, Gleneden Beach and the greater region. The workshop is designed for those interested in mar- keting the region’s premier culinary and agricultural experiences as part of a food trail on the Central Coast. The cost to participate in the workshop is $10 per day, and the evening networking event is free of charge. Morn- ing refreshments and lunch will be served both days.
