Admission is free and gift certificates will be awarded for audience-vot- ed winners and best cos- tume. In addition, there will be a silent auction for other gifts. Poetry maven Jorah La- fleur will emcee the event. FRAA artwork is on dis- play and available for pur- chase. This year’s event will be Dec. 6-8. Registration begins for 14th annual Nativity Festival The Florence Nativity Festival Committee began meeting recently in prepa- ration for its 14th annual exhibit to be held in early December. The festival for 2019 will be held Dec. 6-8, from 1 to 5 p.m. each day. The event takes place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints build- ing, located on the corner of North Fork and Munsel Lake Roads, and is free of charge. Children are welcome. The festival has grown from a one-day event dis- playing 119 nativity scenes to a three-day festival with almost 400 crèches, tapes- tries and other art forms de- picting the birth of Christ. Visitors who attend will be able to enjoy the sights, hear live music and capture the feeling of Christmas. Anyone in the area who wishes to display a nativity scene this year is invited to participate; displayers from past years are welcome to join again. All nativity sets, large or small, are welcome. Security is provided for the nativity scenes once they are set up at the church. For registration infor- mation, contact Carol Parrish at 541-997-6678. The program is also look- ing for community mem- bers who would be willing to assist the committee with hosting duties, musical per- formances as well as staging and presentation of nativi- ties. For the fifth straight year, City Lights Cinemas, 1940 Highway 101, hosts this year’s festival. The program showing is called “Is This “We’re next to the Bridge” tor, Michael Harrington. Wandering Reel is a trav- eling short film festival with a focus on bringing meaningful films to com- munities with limited or no access to compassionate, thought-provoking cinema. Each film is chosen based on its merit of telling a powerful story, then pro- grammed with films that, together, are an integral part of a larger story, repre- sented in the theme of the program. For the second year in a row, the festival proudly features a line-up of films feature a majority of female filmmakers, a sign that, ac- cording to festival director, Michael Harrington, “short films are once again ahead of the pack and paving the way for innovation and true gender equality in the film industry.” Harrington will lead a Q&A discussion after each screening.
