Along with yodeling and stein-holding en- durance competitions, visitors enjoyed pret- zels, bratwurst, German chocolate cake and beer, as well as a chance to win a number of raffle prizes — all to raise money for Florence Van Fans, which transports cancer patients to out-of-town treatment centers. Florence Mayor Joe Henry opened the fes- tivities by officially tapping a mini keg, which was followed by Nyah Vollmar singing the Na- tional Anthem and Siuslaw News editor Ned Hickson emceeing the competitions leading up to the day’s races, hosted by Jeanna Petersen. Okto-Fur-Fest 2019 Champion: Dexter is a 2.5-year-old, 16-pound Dachshund male from Tualatin, Ore. He is owned by Becca Guimont. Okto-Fur-Fest is presented by Siuslaw News, Florence Events Center and the Florence Wiener Dog Races. Sponsors include Chad E.
