2B | SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2019 | SIUSLAW NEWS S CHEDULED PUBLIC CHECKPOINT AT ODNRA RELOCATED , OPEN REEDSPORT — The previously scheduled OHV public check point at Umpqua Riding Area will now be held at 10 mile OHV Route daily from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Forest Service officials are reminding riders that the purpose of the check- points is to verify compli- Mapleton from 1B — but all of a sudden there was someone on the ground trying to get it. It made me very happy to see that.” The Sailors started off strong in the first set, with Briena Jensen serv- ing up seven points on a number of aces for a 7-2 lead. But the Eagles clawed their way back, tying the game 11-11 midway through the set. The score remained tied briefly, until the Eagles began to pull ahead after a time out. The set ended with a 25-19 score. That threw the Sailors Viks from 1B Alberty, 2 points from Hailee Outlaw and a kill from Hayden Muller. From the service line, Tupua had 8 aces with Alberty and Blake serving up 3 aces each. Defensively, Muller had 20 digs for the Viks, along ance with existing OHV regulations. Forest Protection Officers and Law Enforcement Officers will be issuing citations for OHV users who do not comply with sound limits and other off-road regula- tions such as use of safety flags, OHV permit stickers and OHV safety education cards. The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (ODNRA) is managed for multiple recreational uses, both motorized and non-motorized. Due to its unique topog- raphy, varied recreational uses and proximity to resi- dential areas, currently a 93 decibel sound limit is applied to all OHVs within the ODNRA. For more information about regulations at the ODNRA, visit www.go.usa. gov/xPk3H or call the ODNRA Visitor Center at 541-271-6000. off guard in the second set. The Eagles gained an early lead, staying ahead of the Sailors by at least a seven point throughout the set, which ended in a 25-15 loss for Mapleton. The Sailors rallied at the beginning of the third set, at one point holding a 11-5 lead over the Eagles. But as in the first set, midway through the game things got tied up, this time at 14-14, with the Eagles pulling away on a series of well-placed aces. But the Sailors refused to yield. Even when they were down 17-21, they kept diving and fighting for each vol- ley until the Eagles finally pulled away for the win, 25-18. Still, the spirit of the team isn’t diminished. “Every single time they come in and say, ‘That was a fun game.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah!’” Dooley said. “I want that to keep going on. I think that if we keep working as hard as we’re working, we’re going to see the results that we want to see. I mean, even with a loss, there’s still been some really great moments and the great moments are starting to outweigh the ones where we’re not doing so well. It’s exactly what you want in this season.” Though they aren’t winning games, Dooley said they’re quickly stack- ing up winning moments. “It’s getting as many of those as we can and improving every game,” said Dooley. “We got a great stuff block there. We were celebrating that pretty hard. I think we’ve only had one other one so far this season. I’m just hoping that once they get the fee of that, they’ll think, ‘I want more of that.’” But of course, they have not given up on get- ting that first win. “If we keep practicing as hard as we are and playing with 9 for Mia Collins, 8 for Lindsey Long, 7 from Alberty, 6 from Blake and 3 from Tupua. The Viks are competing today at the Sisters Tournament and will return to Glenn Butler Court Tuesday night to host Marist, beginning at 6:30 p.m. GOLF OCEAN DUNES GOLF LINKS MEN’S CLUB GAME OF THE WEEK: 4 PPL SCRAMBLE S CORES & S TANDINGS B OWLING SUNDAY SOCIAL LEAGUE TEAMS KINGS PINS BASS HOLE BAIT ZERO COOL TEAM #3 PIN GETTERS CLEAR CUTTERS BOWLSHEET TEAM HDCP GAME PIN GETTERS TEAM HDCP SERIES KINGS PINS TEAM #3 TEAM SCRATCH GAME BASS HOLE BAIT TEAM SCRATCH SERIES BOWLSHEET SCRATCH GAME M - STEVEN GRAY M - DON MOORE W - SHIRLEY STRICKLER SCRATCH SERIES M - CARL FRAZIER W - SHIRLEY STRICKLER HDCP GAME M - DON MOORE W - SHIRLEY STRICKLER HDCP SERIES M - DON MOORE W - SHIRLEY STRICKLER 2-Family Sale Fri.-Sun., 9/20-9/22 8am-2pm 2320 & 2268 18th Street Lots of kids stuff, household, etc.. My alma mater, War- renton High School, was lacking any form of or- ganized weightlift ing for athletes. Scattered along our balcony were sev- eral bar bells and free weights. During my time work- ing on a fi shing boat, I once lift ed eight tons of tuna in one week, han- dling each tuna at least four times. I caught them, arranged them on the deck to cool, iced them and fi nally unload- ed them. Th at totals 32 tons in one week. But I realized being work- strong was not enough for excelling at football. I learned this aft er a Shrine football practice in the Eastern Oregon weight room. Mike Gano, a run- ning back from Rainier High School and a league opponent, placed 220 pounds on the universal weight set and asked how many reps I could do. I struggled to get fi ve reps. He then placed 30 more pounds on the machine and proceeded to push out 20 reps. It’s no wonder he ran over, around and through our Warrenton defense.
