September 2019 • Florence Events Center — Center Stage • 9 FEC Annual Volunteer Luncheon R ODS ‘N R HODIES RETURNS S EPT . 13 & 14 Florence is revving up for the 12th annual Rods ’N Rhodies Car Show and Com- munity-wide Garage Sale the weekend of Sept. 13 and 14. Th e car show, now orga- nized by Rods ‘N Rhodies Inc., showcases more than 100 of the best high-end hot rods and custom cruisers from the West Coast. It is regularly accompanied by the Community-wide Garage Sale, which features dozens of private and commercial garage sales all over town and other family-friendly events. For more information: In August, the Florence Events Center and Director Kevin Rhodes honored volunteers at the annual FEC Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. The Volunteer of the Year Award went to Kirk Mlinek, president of the Friends of the FEC. The General Manager’s Award went to Rachel Pearson, one of the main leaders behind the Friends of the FEC’s Winter Music Festival, celebrating 18 years in January 2020. The Queen of the FEC Jungle Award went to longtime FEC volunteer Bonnie MacDuffee. The FEC thanks the dozens of community members who volunteer to keep the theater and event space thriving. Attendees at this expo can look forward to free health screenings and accessing in- vestment guidance, travel news, retirement choices and attending a variety of educa- tional seminars. Th e expo includes a diverse range of exhibitors, entertain- ment and educational semi- nars with the goal of helping the 50-plus demographic manage and enhance all as- pects of their lives. Th ere will also be chances for volunteer opportunities and community engagement. However, people should not that this year there will not be fl u shots off ered. Following that weekend, Sept. 20 and 21 will feature Jacob West- fall. When this Nashville native is not writing music for commer- cial placements, he is touring the country performing his original music. Aft er an appearance on ABC’s American Idol season 16, he released his debut record “Where Are We.” Jacob covers a variety of genres that will defi nitely delight listeners from all around. Finally, on Sept. 27 and 28, Blue Bills will have a new entertainer each night. On Friday, Anthony McCarthy, a solo singer-songwrit- er from Eugene, Ore., who now resides in Portland, will be per- forming theater and music. Playing guitar and piano, Anthony brings with him the astonishing ability to touch the hearts of his lis- teners with a mix of folky, soulful, pop-rock off er- ings, presenting poignant melodies and heartfelt lyr- ics. Anthony has toured the Pacifi c Northwest, playing wineries, clubs, bars, festivals, even a wedding or two, along with two tours that took him all the way to the Sundance Film Festival.
