Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is FREE and coin ap- praisals will be available. Exhibitors will display coins from the United States and around the world, including Greek and Ro- man coins, territorial gold coins, and hundreds more. For anyone who is new to coin collecting or who has never been to a major coin show before, here are a few tips: Plan to arrive early to allow plenty of time to look at all the exhibits; bring a good coin guide with prices for reference; bring a notebook to keep track of contact information for dealers that might become good contacts for future needs. Twenty-two years ago, in 1997, Florence coin dealer George Brow- er and Sweet Home coin dealer Dennis Hankins got together and decided to host a coin show here in Florence, Ore. It was like a major meeting of the minds. The result was the Flor- ence Coin Show, which is the sec- ond longest running event at the Florence Events Center. From its humble beginnings, the Florence Coin Show has grown to be one of the most respected coin shows in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. The show has grown from just a handful of dealers to its present size of over 60 bourse tables and about 30 paid dealers, many at- tending from Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho and even from as far away as New York and other New England states. In addition, numerous visiting dealers attend the show, many of whom hope to be included in the next year’s event. Over the years, many rare and in- teresting coins, tokens and stamps have been bought and sold at this Detectives responded and their investigation has identified 35-year-old Gene Manuel Joseph from Florence as a suspect in the shooting. There is something for everyone. From 2001 to 2017, the show is- sued free tokens commemorating the show, which are now prized and sought-after collectibles. In 2014, Brower decided to retire from putting on the show and sold his interest in the show to Florence coin dealer Terry Woodward, who used to put on coin shows in Cali- fornia and Nevada. The Florence Coin Show will be held on Aug. 17 and 18 — and who knows what treasures will be found there.
