Trail Run 9 a.m. Horse Cr. campground Tide Tables They may be called the Littlefoots, but the South Coast League Rookies team stomped their opponents at last weekend’s Roseburg Tournament, going unde- feated en route to the tour- nament title. “Our defense played phe- nomenal, turning several double plays,” said coach Rich DeSantis. That offensive firepower included a first-to-home double play in a relay throw from first baseman Torelan DeSantis to Carter Gray behind the plate. The Littlefoots also had solid defensive efforts from Lucca Flossi at shortstop, Michael Fitzsimmons at third base, Trendel DeSantis at second base and outfield- ing from Judah henry and Cam Lyda. The team emerged as the top seed from Saturday’s pool play and into Sunday’s bracket play, where they opened with a 15-5 romp over Umpqua Valley that ended in four innings due to the mercy rule. The Littlefoots went on to defeat Coos Bay in the semi-finals game, 15-13, before edging out North Bend 8-7 in the champion- ships — forgoing their last at bats in both games. All told, the team of 7- to 9-year-olds outscored their opponents 71-36 for the weekend and secured an on-base percentage of .705. Offensively, TJ Persons led the team, getting aboard 11 out of 11 times, followed by Flossi, who went 11-for- 12. At the plate, Nate Selig knocked in 3 homeruns for the Littlefoots in the tourna- ment. The Littlefoots, now 20-2 on the season, will take this weekend off before return- ing to the baseball diamond July 6-7 in Newport, then wrap up the season in Lincoln City July 13-14. South coast residents are invited to a special walk along the ocean in Yachats to hike to the Amanda Trail statue on Tuesday, July 2. This walk has great views, easy walking and a bit of forest for those who choose the longer walk. Walk a little, a lot or the whole 6 miles. The distance and speed of walking is tai- lored to those at the walk that day. Walking sticks and stur- dy shoes are recommended. Walkers should wear layered clothing. All walkers are wel- come, rain or sunshine. These walks have varied walking sur- faces and a few short hills. The first 1.5 miles is out along and returns on the 804 Trail in south Yachats. The 3-mile walk does not hike up any hills and does not go to the Amanda Statue. The longer route continues and climbs up the Pacific Coast Trail to the Amanda Statue. Dogs are welcome but must be on a six-foot, non-extend- able lead to walk with the group and owners must carry and use appropriate cleanup materials. RSVPs are appreciated. ODFW R EGIONAL F ISHING R EPORT www.dfw.state.or.us/RR MID-COAST LAKES: Stocking of mid-coast lakes stopped in early June, but fishing for warmwater species can still be good in several area lakes, including Ollala Reservoir, Mercer Lake, Siltcoos Lake and Tahkenitch Lake. SIUSLAW RIVER: Fall Chinook, winter steelhead Winter steelhead fishing opened on Dec. 1 and fish will start entering the Siuslaw sys- tem throughout the month of December. No good reports yet but things should be changing this week with warmer weath- er and rain in the forecast. Hatchery fish in the Siuslaw system return to Whitaker Creek (Siuslaw) and Green Creek (Lake Creek). Fishing should start to pick up soon with each rise in the river levels. Bobber fishing with bait/jigs, drift fishing, and casting lures are good techniques to catch a Siuslaw winter steelhead. Steelhead fishing remains open in the closed Chinook areas of the Siuslaw and Lake Creek. Due to lower than expected returns and conservation con- cerns, fall Chinook fishing on the Siuslaw remains closed upstream of the Tiernan boat ramp (downstream of Mapleton). Below the deadline the bag limit for fall Chinook is reduced to one adult Chinook per day and a limit of 3 through the remainder of the season.
