SIUSLAW NEWS | SATURDAY, MAY 25, 2019 | 3A Community News Memorial wreath laying set for Monday at 1 p.m. Florence’s veterans’ or- ganization will be hosting a Memorial Day Service and Wreath Ceremony at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Bay Street on Monday, May 27, at 1 p.m. The ser- vices will include the post- ing of colors, the National Anthem, the Pledge of Al- legiance and the Memorial Prayer. A Memorial Day address will be presented to attend- ees in conjunction with a patriotic song, and ending with a closing prayer and the laying of memorial wreaths in the Siuslaw Riv- er and Taps. LCC, Library closed for Memorial Day Monday Lane Community Col- lege and Siuslaw Public Li- brary will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 27. No classes will be held and no services will be available, unless otherwise announced by a depart- ment or program. Pro- grams will resume Tuesday. Applebee to retire in June from Oregon Coast Military Museum The Oregon Coast Mili- tary Museum (OCMM) an- nounced Thursday that Cal Applebee, the museum’s Ex- ecutive Director, has decid- ed to retire effective June 30. OCMM Board President Tim Sapp said, “Applebee has contributed his years of organizational experience to the museum in its in- fancy stage. His work ethic, enthusiasm and focus on the mission have been ex- emplary.” Applebee has served in his role since May 2016. During Applebee’s tenure, he played key roles in solid- ifying the museum’s pres- ence in Florence. This year, OCMM part- nered with Spruce Point to bring The Wall That Heals to Florence and has established a relationship with the Southwestern Or- egon Museum Association group, which has resulted in broader regional part- nerships for the museum. He served as a champion for the incorporation of the Motorpool group into the museum.
