He has been ac- tive in the Florence commu- nity for over 30 years, serving on the boards of numerous charitable organizations and is currently an active board member of the Friends of Florence. Thompson is a past presi- dent of Florence Area Cham- ber of Commerce and previ- ously recognized as Florence First Citizen. He was recently named 2016 Broadcaster of the Year by the Oregon As- sociation of Broadcasters. He has served on Oregon Pacif- Jon Thompson ic Bank’s Board of Directors since 2004 and was appoint- ed by a unanimous vote to the position of Chairman on April 17, after the retirement of former Chair Robert King. “I am proud to see how far we’ve come and feel that Oregon Pacific Bank’s future is extremely bright,” said Thompson in response to his newly appointed position. “As a board member for the past 15 years, I’ve been with the bank through the ups and downs. Many banks didn’t make it through the last re- cession, but we did, and we are much stronger because of it.” “We will work hard to maintain our communi- ty bank values and culture, while we grow and thrive.” Thompson continued. “It is vital that we continue to support the communities we serve through volunteerism, donations, and partnerships with our local business own- ers and nonprofit organi- zations. We have a fantastic board, outstanding executive leadership, and a phenome- nal staff, and I am honored to work among them.” The bank also elected Dan Jones as the board’s new Vice Chair. Jones is the owner of DJ Financial, a tax and in- vestment advisory practice, based out of Roseburg. He holds a degree in ac- counting and is a Certified Public Accountant and Reg- istered Investment Advisor. In his spare time, Dan sup- ports the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation, assists with his children’s school sys- tem activities, and regularly donates his services to help with elder care issues. Jones has been an active member of Oregon Pacific Bank’s Board of Directors since 2014 and represents the Bank’s Douglas County com- munities. “Dan has been an out- standing board member since day one,” says Thomp- son. “His background as a CPA and overall financial knowledge has been a vital resource to the board and he is an exceptional representa- tive of the Roseburg commu- nity. “I am thrilled to continue to work with Dan even more closely.” Spring Education Celebration, Carnival May 4 at SMS The Siuslaw Education Foundation is hosting the Spring Education Celebra- tion and Carnival at the Siu- slaw Middle School on Satur- day, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is open to all. FACC to host panel on housing challenges, solutions Wednesday The Florence Area Com- munity Coalition (FACC) offers a panel discussion on some of the efforts being made in the community to address the question of how families without previous rental history can find af- fordable housing in the Flor- ence area. Greg Wood will speak about First Step’s transitional housing project. Eric Haupt- man of Heart of the Coast Housing Alliance presents its vision for the manufacture of ADU’s (Accessary Dwelling Units) and the issues such homes can help remedy. Suzanne Mann-Heintz of Safe Shelter for Siuslaw Students shares plans in the works for temporary emer- gency housing for students and their families and the impact of insufficient hous- ing on student performance. The May monthly FACC meeting will be held Wednes- day, May 1, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library. FACC hosts meetings with topics of community inter- est each month to encourage community participation and networking.
