Three scholarships are awarded by the COCBR each year in three catego- ries: Siuslaw High School graduate, Mapleton High School graduate and a Flor- ence resident wanting to attend Lane Community College. The application deadline is May 4. For more information, contact the COCBR office at 541-902-2560 or visit cocbr. net/cocbr-scholarships Kindergarten Round-Up April 25 Siuslaw Elementary School is preparing for its spring pre-registration and Kindergarten Kick-Off, which will be held Thurs- day, April 25, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Siuslaw Elemen- tary School kindergarten building, 2221 Oak St. Kindergarten pre-regis- tration packets are going out to preschools and will also be available at SES. Par- ents can pick up registration forms at the school during business hours of 7:35 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Forms need to be re- turned to the school during the week of April 22. A student must be five years old on or before Sept. 1 in order to start kinder- garten. Public invited to North Bend Coast Guard Station open house U.S. Coast Guard Sector North Bend is scheduled to host an open house at its base near the North Bend Airport on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Coast Guard units involved in the open house include: Sector North Bend; Station Coos Bay; Aids to Navigation Team Coos Bay; Sector Columbia River and Air Station Sacramento. The open house is free to the public and will include search- and-rescue demonstrations and static displays including Coast Guard boats, aircraft and various first responders from the local community. “This year, Sector North Bend wants to thank our surrounding communities for their unparal- leled support.
