2A | WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10, 2019 | SIUSLAW NEWS On The Record Dunes Memorial Chapel serving Florence and the surrounding area OBITUARIES REINDL—Willetta “Wil- lie” Reindl, 93, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 26, 2019, in Eagle, Idaho, where she had lived in as- sisted care with her husband Bob and Willie Reindl Bob since 2016. Bob preceded her in death at age 94, Dec. 24, 2017, at the VA Hospital in Boise. As long-time Florence residents, it was their wish to be returned to their home town after both had passed, to be buried together next to their son, Melvin, at the Pa- cific Sunset Cemetery (see date of Memorial and Life Celebration below). Born in Florence in April 1925, Willie was the young- est of four children born to Henry and Flossie Hun- tington. After graduating high school in 1943, Willie attended Eugene Business College, subsequently work- ing as a clerk for Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene, Moffit Field Air Base in the Bay area and Crown Zeller- bach near Gardiner, Ore. In early 1945, Willie re- turned to Oregon and, in April, she began dating Bob who was home on leave from the Navy during WWII. Eleven days later they mar- ried on April 15 and that union would last nearly 73 years. Bob was still on active duty at the end of WWII, so Willie moved twice to the East Coast to live near his bases in Portland, Maine, and Norfolk, Va. They re- turned to Florence in late 1948. Willie was a very de- voted wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend and neigh- bor, and her smile was ever-present! She had a passion for gardening and was an outstanding seamstress, which led to her teaching 4H Club sewing classes. When they moved to Hebo, Ore., with Bob’s career in the forest service, Willie took up toll painting, which led to her love of Norwegian Rosemaling. She would con- tinue painting and sewing for many more years until Parkinson’s Disease stole her ability to do either. Willie and Bob loved the outdoors — hiking, fishing, camping and RVing with friends, touring the west, parts of Canada and Mexico. At retirement, Willie wanted to leave the coastal climate so they found their new home in Dallas, Ore., in the Willamette Valley. They continued RVing many more years and spent many winters in southern Ariz. They were active mem- bers of the Evangelical Lu- theran Church in Florence, Tillamook and Dallas, Ore. Willie is survived by their two children: Susann (and Kim) of Ecklund, Idaho, and Phil Reindl; Phil’s two children: Heidi (and Mike) Harper, of North Carolina, and Andy Reindl, with the USAF in Ramstein, Germa- ny. A celebration of two lives well lived will be held Satur- day, June 8, in Florence, at New Life Lutheran Church beginning at 10:30 a.m. This will be followed at 11:30 a.m. by a Military Honors Burial at Pacific Sunset Cemetery. A catered lunch and life celebration will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Florence Event Center. GO ODWIN— G ord on Jay Goodwin, a long time Florence resident, passed early Tuesday morning on April 2, 2019. Born in Portland, Ore., on June 20, 1932, he was a second generation Orego- nian; his mother, Velma, was born in Brownsville, Ore., in 1903. He got his Masters Degree from Fresno State in 1977 and worked in the mental health field as a psychiatric social worker until he retired in January of 1991. Jay will long be remem- bered and appreciated as the Founder of the Florence Unitarian Universalist Fel- lowship on Heceta Road. His greatest concern was politics. He was often seen at the main intersection of Highway 101 and Ninth Street every Saturday urging others to get involved. He volunteered for nearly 10 years at the Pioneer Mu- seum. He also volunteered at the Heceta Lighthouse, Elder- berry Square, Siuslaw Public Librar y and oth- er plac- Jay Goodwin es. Jay is survived by two daughters: Robin and Terry, presently living in Maryland. Florence Unitarian Uni- versalist Fellowship will host a Celebration of Life par- ty on April 28, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Bring a dish to share. All are welcome. BIRTH SCOTT—Kai Bobby Scott was born at 6:48 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. He weighed 6 pounds, 15.8 ounces and was 21 inches long. He was born to Brennent Scott and Julia Warren Lelievre.
