On Wednesday, March 13, the Republican Club of Florence met for a potluck, information update and planning at the Elks Lodge on Mercer Lake Road. Speakers included Teri Grier, who discussed the thousands of bills in Salem and how and where to get updates. Kim Pruitt shared infor- mation about “The Wall That Heals”, which will make its unique visit to Flor- ence on Wednesday, April 4. There were updates on local outreach for Right to Life and a “Defend the 2nd Amendment” rally in Salem taking place this Saturday, March 23. Approximatrely 50 people attended the potluck, which organizers said had good food, great company and praised the Elks meeting room as an asset to Florence. School district conducting public survey on facilities A special advisory com- mittee of the Siuslaw School District is asking for citizen input on several key issues regarding education in the district. Residents of the Siuslaw School District are being asked to complete a short questionnaire online at https://bit.ly/SiuslawSur- vey. The Facilities Adviso- ry Committee is seeking to learn how residents feel about educational oppor- tunities in the area, what involvement they have with local educational organiza- tions, and what improve- ments they suggest. While the committee is specifically seeking in- put about Siuslaw schools (elementary, middle, high school and Lane Commu- nity College), respondents are being asked to also view WEDNESDAY THURSDAY local education in a broader context. There are more than 75 local organizations that provide educational oppor- tunities, and respondents are asked to consider all ed- ucational resources that are available when answering certain questions. The committee is also asking respondents to an- swer a few questions about last November’s ballot mea- sure that proposed funding for new school facilities. Answers to those ques- tions will help the Siuslaw School Board to better un- derstand the perspectives of school district residents in order to engage in effective planning. The Facilities Advisory Committee will be holding a series of meetings around the district in the coming weeks to gain further in- put from residents on their views about education in the area.
