2A | SATURDAY, MARCH 2, 2019 | SIUSLAW NEWS On The Record OBITUARIES PACKEBUSH—Gloria (Simington) Packebush, 69, of Florence, passed away Feb. 24, 2019, surrounded by family. Gloria was born Aug. 22, 1949, in Cable, Wisc., to the late Beverly and Lewis Sim- ington. Gloria was mar- ried to Duane and they just cel- e b r at e d t h e i r 5 3 r d Gloria wedding Packebush anniver- sary. Gloria was a homemaker busy raising four kids. She was involved in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Mothers Club and was involved in all the kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events. After the kids all gradu- ated, she went to work as a CNA in the care facility un- til she retired to spend time with the grandkids. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Duane; their sons: Duane Jr. and Rodney; daughters: Laurie Rogers and Carmen Lib- by. She was a grandmother to nine grandkids and five great-grandkids. The service will be held Saturday, March 9, at 2 p.m. at the Swisshome Church. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Swis- shome Church. WESTPHAL—Richard “Wes” Westphal, 78, passed away Feb. 25, 2019 in Oro- ville, Wash. Wes was a long-time Florence resident and past co-owner of World-Action Realty with his ex-wife, Lin- da. He and Linda moved to Florence from Eugene in 1986. While in Florence, he received the Re- altor of The Year award twice. He was active in the local Kiwan- Richard is and Westphal chair- man of the first Fall Festival. He and Linda helped start the Florence Unity Church. Wes moved to Washing- ton in 2000. While in Eugene, Wes worked as a loan officer for U.S. Bank. He helped orga- nize and headed the Eugene Bicycle Committee for sev- eral years before turning it over to Ruth Bascom in the mid-1970s, riding his bike back and forth from home to the bank everyday. He and Linda owned and operated The Market Place Antiques for many years. Wes was born to Leon and Lucille Westphal in Chero- kee, IA, June 29, 1940. He was the eldest of three boys. His youngest brother, Marlin Westphal. lives in Rapid City, S.D. Wes enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957 and served four years. He always joked about being in the U.S. Navy and never having been on board a ship. He leaves behind his ex- wife, Linda Westphal of Florence; their two children: Julie Westphal of Canby, and John Westphal of Eu- gene; two grandchildren: Jason of Nampa, Idaho and Jacob of Boise Idaho and two great-grandchildren of Nampa, Idaho. Wes loved to interact with people. He was outgoing and generous with his time; a tal- ented woodworker, handy- man, artist and great pool player. He was always friendly and willing to help anyone. ‘A memorial service was held in Oroville, Wash. MARLER —Timothy Marler, 64, of Florence, passed away Feb. 24, 2019. A p - propri- a t e l y born on Ve t e r - ans Day, Nov. 11, 1954, in San Timothy Jose, Ca- Marler lif., the third- child born to Virginia and Kenneth Marler. Tim grew up in Santa Cruz, Calif., and was in- volved in Boy Scouts. He en- joyed fishing off the end of the pier with his brother and granddad. Tim attended Soquel High School and served as a Spe- cialist in the United States Army. He moved to Florence in 1997 from Springfield and worked as a professional chef at The Windward Inn and The Blue Hen, both in Flor- ence. Tim loved the outdoors, riding his motorcycle, target shooting, building cannons and his pets. He was a mem- ber of The Florence Elks Lodge, VFW and DAV and The Band of Brothers. Tim is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginger” Marler; daughter Theresa Brooks (Allen); his girls Kar- en (Dwayne), Rhonda (Carl) and Angie (Donnie); grand- daughter Ashley Horton and great-granddaughter, Pep- per; sisters Nila Frankhaus- er and Margaret McGourn; a brother, Daniel (Cindy) Marler; his mother Virginia Marler; nieces Dr. Judy Rich- ardson and Erin McGourn; nephews Kenneth and Caleb Frankhauser, Ted McGourn and Matthew Marler; several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Marl- er; a brother-in-law, Larry Frankhauser; a son-in-law, “Space”; and son, Dennis Horton. A memorial service will be on March 3, at 1 p.m. at The Florence Elks Lodge. In lieu of flowers, contri- butions can be made to the Paralyzed Veterans Associa- tion.
