SIUSLAW NEWS | SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2019 | 5A Spirituali-Tea to learn ‘kindness to strangers’ The community is invit- ed to attend a gathering of friends who are diverse in their spiritual backgrounds and wanting to discuss a spir- itual topic with an attitude of discovery and apprecia-tion. The Spirituali-Tea meeting will occur Monday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Heintz fami- ly home, 875 Seventh St. The topic for the evening will be: “Kindness to Strangers.” The Writings of The Bahá’í Faith say, “Let not conven- tionality cause you to seem cold and un-sympathetic when you meet strange peo- ple from other countries. Do not look at them as though you suspected them of being evildoers, thieves and boors. ... Be kind to the strangers, whether come they from Turkey, Japan, Persia, Russia, China or any other country in the world. Help to make them feel at home; find out where they are staying, ask if you may render them any service; try to make their lives a little happier.” The evening will end with prayers said for requests left in the prayer pole in the garden of the Florence Playhouse and requests by those attending. For more information, call Suzanne Mann-Heintz at 541-590-0779. FUUF completes ‘Building the Future’ On Sunday, Feb. 24, from 10 until 11 a.m. at the Flor- ence Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, the Rev. Dr. Ruth Miller will finish up her four- part series titled “Building the Future.” This Sunday’s message is, “Becoming.” “It’s so easy to look around and decide what things ‘out there’ need to change for us to be happy,” Miller said. “It takes much more courage and commitment to look inside and realize that the change must start here, in our own thoughts, feelings, words and actions. The pro- cess of becoming the person we see in our vision may be instantaneous with our rec- ognition ... or it may take months, even years, before we’ve dissolved the mental blocks and barriers to our idea of Heaven on Earth.” This Sunday, the Univer- salists will explore how that process works. FUUF is located at 87738 Highway 101 at Heceta Beach Road and is wheel- chair accessible. Each ser- vice concludes with refresh- ments and a dialogue circle to explore the questions that come up during each wor- ship service. For more information, visit www.florenceuuf.org. One of those awards is for the Outstand- ing Public Employee,” he said. He introduced LCOG Executive Director Brenda Wilson, who stated, “Ev- ery year, for more than 50 years, LCOG has been cel- ebrating outstanding work in our region. There’s a lot of it going on. We represent almost every man, woman and child in Lane County. These are awards that are well deserved and highly competitive. This year, I’m happy to announce that LCOG will recognize your very own city administrator Erin Reynolds.” Reynolds has served as Florence’s city manager since 2015. “I’m honored to accept this award on behalf of the Lane County offers free, comprehensive Recycling Guide The Lane County Waste Management Division just released a new comprehen- sive Recycling Guide de- signed to help more residents and businesses access the wide array of recycling and waste reduction resources available in the community.
