Tree falling will begin next week, starting Monday, Feb. 4, and will require traffic be stopped and flagged through the area for safety. Delays should be expected Monday through Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Crews will work at times on Friday mornings between 8 a.m. and noon. There will be no lane closures or flagging at night or on weekends. Centerline and shoulder rumble strips will be added. The $5 million project will also replace a large culvert pipe under the highway with a box culvert, and include environmental mitigation for environmental impacts and water quality treatment. OBITUARY manager. “That kind of par- ticipation shows just how important it is to buckle up everyone, every trip.” In 2016 in Oregon, lack of a safety belt or child restraint system was a factor in 89 deaths — or 26 percent of the 343 motor vehicle occupant fatalities. That same year, 1,992 chil- dren under 12 were injured in crashes, and 10 percent of those were reported not using a child passenger re- straint system. Oregon law requires chil- dren to ride in a rear-facing safety seat until they are at least two years old. A child over age two must continue to ride in a car seat with harness until 40 pounds and then in a booster until they reach age eight or 4’ 9” in height and the adult belt fits them correctly. Across the country, motor vehicle crashes are the lead- ing cause of death for chil- dren ages 1 to 12 years old. Studies show that child car seats may increase crash sur- vival by 71 percent for infants under 1 year old and by up to 59 percent for toddlers ages 1 to 4.
