Library Closure The library will be closed on Sunday, Jan. 27, as described below. Regular hours resume on Monday, Jan. 28. “Irish Wake” for Mary Colgan-Bennetts The Siuslaw Public Library will be hosting an Irish wake this Sunday, Jan. 27, from 1 to 4 p.m., in honor of Mary Col- gan-Bennetts, our long-time Circulation Supervisor, who passed away in November. The library will be closed that day and the entire communi- ty is invited to come celebrate Mary, who was such an inte- gral part of the library and the community. This event is open to everyone! Friends of the Library Meet Tomorrow The Friends of the Library will be meeting tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. in the library’s Bromley Room. All Friends members and li- brary supporters are encour- aged to attend. AARP Tax Service Beginning on Monday, Feb. 4, the AARP tax service will be available at the library on Mondays and Thursdays Gallery, located at 120 Ma- ple St., put up a “Giving Tree” from mid-November through the end of Decem- ber. This was decorated with handmade ornaments and other adornments donated by FRAA member artists. All proceeds from the sales went to the Mapleton Art Program. The check was presented by FRAA Board members John Leasure, Claudia Ig- natieff and Andrew Ned- der, representing the FRAA membership. through April 11, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. AARP will also be here two Saturdays, March 23 and April 13, which will be the last day of the service. AARP requests that you bring your 2017 tax return, a photo ID, Social Security card and 2017 tax documents and medical coverage documents. AARP offers free tax prepa- ration help to anyone of any age — but especially if you are 50 or older and can’t afford paid tax preparation. The ser- vice is first-come, first serve, with the first couple of weeks usually seeing the biggest crowds. Check a book out of the library while waiting your turn! Tax Forms Once the library has re- ceived tax forms from the IRS we will make them available (to date they have not been received). Note that there is only one basic form this year, the 1040; the 1040A and 1040EZ have been eliminated. Additional schedules (A, B, C, etc.) are added to the 1040 as needed. Oregon does not send tax forms to libraries but both IRS and state forms can be found online. Check with the Refer- ence Desk for assistance.
