Candy sales are open Mon- day through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is a new location for the Kiwanis See’s Candy Sales, so people are encouraged to stop in and visit Kiwanis vol- unteers in this new, warm venue. Proceeds from the candy sales go to Kiwanis projects like the Community Thanks- giving Dinner (which served over 665 people in Novem- Empty Bowls helps add to food pantry ber), Head Start Harvest Fes- tival, school supplies for Ma- pleton and Siuslaw schools, Rhody Days Kids Games, Key Club & Builders Clubs at area schools and the Florence and Mapleton food shares, just to name a few. Candy includes the tradi- tional 1-pound boxes of choc- olates, but Kiwanis will also be selling peanut brittle, truffles and holiday boxed chocolates. “Please help support the Kiwanis Club of Florence so we can continue our local projects,” said Kiwanian Jean Murphey. After a competitive appli- cation process, the Public Art Committee has nominated two members of the public to be part of our Selection Com- mittee for the Central Lincoln PUD building mural. Annalee Griffis, a Siuslaw High School senior, and Pa- tricia Briggs, who recently moved to Florence from Yach- ats, will join Harlen Springer (PAC chairperson), Joshua Greene (City Councilor and Ex-Officio to PAC) and Mark Freeman (Central Lincoln Agency (FURA), the board authorized City Manager Erin Reynolds to sign the contract for Jessilyn Brinkerhoff, the artist chosen for the Siuslaw Bridge Steps project. Now that the contract is signed, the artist will be final- izing her design based off in- put from FURA board mem- bers as well as members of PAC, then submitting it to the Oregon Department of Trans- portation as well as the State Historic Preservation Office for review. Once she has been ap- proved, Brinkerhoff will be working on fabrication of the metal pieces of her installation over the winter with a hopeful PUD representative) on the selection committee. The selection committee will meet the first week of De- cember, where they will make a recommendation to the PAC about what artist’s proposal should be chosen for the Cen- tral Lincoln PUD Mural. PAC values the input of the community on these types of serious decisions and aims to involve the community as much as possible. The final decision will be made by the full Public Art Committee at the next meet- ing on Monday, Dec. 10, to which the public is invited. At the Nov. 20 meeting of the Florence Urban Renewal installation date before Rhody Days in May 2019. With the passage of the Committee and Commission Policy Manual at the Nov. 5 meeting of Florence City Council, the Public Art Com- mittee can now have up to 11 members, which the commit- tee is actively recruiting for. Anyone interested in pub- lic art, meeting new people in the Florence community or just want to be involved in the beautification of the city is en- couraged to apply to serve on then PAC committee. Children’s choir prepares for ’Joyful Noise’ concert Dec. 9 The Joyful Noise Children’s Choir is excited to invite the Florence community to their holiday production, “The Christmas Express.” The show will be presented WEDNESDAY THURSDAY on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. at the Florence Chris- tian Church, located at Second and Ivy streets. Joyful Noise Children’s Choir is a seasonal choir for children of our community, 4 years old through fifth grade. Everyone is invited to attend.
