2A | WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2018 | SIUSLAW NEWS T HE R ECORD OBITUARIES WILSON—Mitchell Wal- lace Wilson, 93, passed away on Nov. 21, 2018. He was born in Pullman Wash., July 15, 1925, to Ches- ter Randolph Wilson and Gladys Seibert Wilson. He mar- ried Lucille Rosalee Carter on June 29, 1951, in Florence, Ore. He en- listed in the Mitchell U.S. Army Wilson at age 17, and was in five major campaigns, includ- ing the landing on Omaha Beach, Northern France, Bat- tle of the Bulge in Ardennes Forest, Rhineland, and Cen- tral Europe. He was in the 3rd Armored Infantry Spearhead Division. He was a staff sergeant, a marksman, squad leader and in the Military Police. Mitchell retired from Lane County Public Works, where he was an equipment oper- ator. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, but his greatest joy came from spend- ing time with his family. He is survived by his wife Lucille; his son Randy and wife Robin; his daughter Cindi and husband Ben; his son Brad and fiance’ Lisa; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed. At the request of Mitchell, a private family service will be held. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. MANSETH—Robert (Bob) Arne Manseth, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grand- father, passed away peacefully in Portland, Ore., on Oct. 24, 2018, after a courageous bat- tle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Eugene, Ore., to Magnus and Esther Manseth. B o b graduat- ed from Oklaho- ma A&M Robert with a Manseth bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He was proud of his military service in the U.S. Marines and U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in the United Kingdom in the 1950s. It was in Edinburgh, Scot- land, that he met his first wife, Anita. Bob and Anita were mar- ried at the Scandinavian Lu- theran Church in 1954. Their daughter, Gail, was born in Prestwick, Scotland, in 1955, and their son, Ron, was born in Ruislip, England, in 1956, both on U.S. Air Force bases. Shortly after, the couple moved to the United States and they resided in Detroit, Mich., and Portland, Ore., before settling in Florence in 1965. Their daughter, Lisa, was born in 1966 in Florence. Bob remarried twice in the years after. Bob spent his years in Flor- ence working as a civil engi- neer and land surveyor; he also was the creator and own- er of Indian Forest, a Highway 101 landmark for 40 years (Laurel Bay Gardens now oc- cupies the building Bob built many years ago). Bob was a member of the Elks Lodge and when he wasn’t busy working would go into town to visit with friends at the Elks, Traveler’s Cove or the casino. He spent many holidays with family in Eugene, Portland and Seattle, and enjoyed taking his family to dinner or just chatting with a glass of wine. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Magnus Manseth; his mother, Esther Manseth; and his brother, Karl Manseth. He is survived by his daugh- ter, Gail Yoshikawa (husband Bert, daughter Courtney, son James, daughter-in-law Tri- sha, and great-granddaugh- ter Kalyn); son Ron Manseth (sons Eric and Jordan); and daughter Lisa Sanchez (hus- band Edwin and sons An- drew and Nick). A private family memorial service will be held at the Wil- lamette National Cemetery in Portland on Nov. 30. A celebration of his life will be held at 1258 Restobar in Florence on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The family asks friends to come for food and stories in remembrance of their father and friend. CRADDOCK —David Craddock, 89, of Florence, died Nov. 12, 2018. He was born June 6, 1929. He was known as “Smilin’ Dave” for his wide grin, con- genial personality and piano playing at many local venues — especially Traveler’s Cove, w h e r e he had a steady gig as part of The Ju keb ox Kings, a swinging trio that enchant- Dave ed danc- Craddock ers and listeners. TERNYIK—Joyce Ternyik, 81, of Florence, passed away Nov. 22, 2018. Services will be held at a later date through Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home. BUSS—Wesley L. Buss, 97, of Florence, passed away Nov. 23, 2018. Arrangements are being held through Burns’s River- side Chapel Florence Funeral Home. SIMMONS—Arlene L. Simmons, 77, of Florence, passed away Nov. 25, 2018. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
