The 23rd annual Empty Bowls fundraising event to bene- fit Florence Food Share will be held Nov. 30 through Dec. 2. This family-friendly annual event contributes funds need- ed to operate our local food pantry and provide services to those in need. Empty Bowls is a community event with numerous par- ticipants including local artists, restaurants, sponsors, Lane Community College students, Siuslaw High School stu- dents and volunteers all working together to make the event possible and successful. Handmade ceramic bowls are created and then donated by local artists and students for sale at the Empty Bowls event. These unique bowls are sold to the public for $10 each, with some smaller $5 bowls available as well. With each bowl sold, the participating restaurants provide a soup coupon good for a cup of the “soup of the day” at their es- tablishments. Other items offered to the public at the silent auction in- clude original paintings, handmade glass bowls and ceramic art. The event will be held at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St. on Friday, Nov. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m.; on Saturday Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and on Sunday, Dec. 2, from noon to 3 p.m. Admission to the event is free. COM The Community Chorus of Florence Oregon will present a Christmas concert, “Sing Me Noel” at the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw, located at 3996 Highway 101. Perfor- mances will be on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. David Aakre will conduct this charming collection of old and contemporary Christ- mas melodies. In addition to “Sing Me Noel,” the concert theme song, Amy Grant’s version of “Emanuel” and “Have Your- self a Merry Little Christmas” provide examples of the type of diversity to be found on the program. This concert is dedicated to the memory of Leah Good- win, who generously assisted the chorus and other venues over the years. The chorus members chose the song, “Breath of Heaven” by Amy WEDNESDAY THURSDAY Grant, for a special tribute to Leah. Special guests will include the Siuslaw High School Gold Viking Chorus, directed by Bruce Morganti, which will perform only at the Saturday concert. The Flotones, a favorite Florence musical group, will appear both Saturday and Sunday. Also appearing is Mary Beers, who will join the chorus for a rousing spiritual, “Jesus, Oh What A Wonderful Child.” On Sunday, David Aakre and his daughter, Kallie Mill, will sing a duet and Rhianna Haines will perform a piano solo. Both performances are free and open to the public. Do- nations will be gratefully ap- preciated for support of the Siuslaw High School Choral Music Program and the Com- munity Chorus. Refreshments will be served after each concert. For more information, call 541 997-3469 or email com- munitychorusflorenceoregon @gmail.edu.
