SIUSLAW NEWS | SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2018 | 5A Red Kettle Kick-off Spirituali-tea meeting to discuss wisdom, religion Residents interested in dis- cussing diverse spiritual ideas are welcome to join a group that has been meeting for years at 875 Seventh St. on Monday, Nov. 12, at 6:30 p.m. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi: “Like the bee gather- ing honey from the different flowers, the wise person ac- cepts the essence of the dif- ferent scriptures and sees only the good in all religions.” Prayer request from the prayer pole in the garden of the Florence Playhouse, 208 Laurel, will be read at the end of the gathering. Unitarians to observe Armistice Day on Sunday Dr. Rev. Ruth Miller will lead the Armistice Day wor- ship service on Sunday, Nov. 11, from 10 to 11 a.m. “The Great War slowly came to a halt. An agreement was reached to cease fire and Europe collectively breathed a sigh of relief,” said Miller. “Thus it was that Nov. 11, 1918, became a day to remem- ber. Now the date has a differ- ent intention, which has creat- ed controversy.” Dr. Miller will create a space to explore the historic, current and possible future focus of this day as the values are clari- fied in community. FUUF, 87738 Highway 101 at Heceta Beach Road, is wheelchair accessible. Each service concludes with refreshments and a dialogue circle to explore the questions that come up during each worship service. For more information visit, www.florenceuuf.org.
