The annual Siuslaw Open Golf Tournament was held Sept. 8 at Florence Golf Links, benefitting Siuslaw Outreach Services (SOS). The event was sponsored by Oregon Pacific Bank, Abel Insurance, Florence Dental Clinic, PeaceHealth, Banner Bank and Johnston Motors. Seventy-two golfers con- verged on Florence Golf Links to raise more than $11,000 that will go to help support families and individuals who face various forms of crisis in the Siuslaw region. The purpose of the check- points is to verify compliance with existing OHV regula- tions. Checkpoints will be located at the Hauser sand access point and the 10 Mile Beach OHV route, located within the ODNRA. Forest Protection Officers and Law Enforcement Officers will be checking for compli- ance with sound limits estab- lished for OHVs while in use at the ODNRA. They will also be confirming that OHV users follow other off-road regula- tions such as use of safety flags, OHV permit stickers and OHV safety education cards. “The staff at ODNRA has seen an increase in sound vio- lations and in volume of com- plaints from community members due to noise,” said Deputy District Ranger Garrit Craig. “We want to increase educational awareness around not just noise levels, but safety in general and to be consistent with our enforcement of these rules. Future checkpoints will be scheduled throughout the ODNRA riding areas, along with active enforcement.” The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is managed for multiple recreational uses, both motorized and non-mo- torized. Due to its unique topogra- phy, varied recreational uses and proximity to residential areas, a 93 decibel sound limit is applied to all OHVs within the ODNRA.
