SIUSLAW NEWS | SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2018 | 5A Play day for all ages, all around town set for Oct. 13 Siuslaw Vision invites community members to attend a fun, free event to experience and celebrate parks and rec- reation activities, on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Siuslaw Play Day events will be held at multiple locations around Florence, including Rolling Dunes Park, Miller Park and the Florence Senior Center. All events are free and open to the public. Siuslaw Play Day features several rec- reation activities and includes both in- struction and hands-on play. At Rolling Dunes Park, on 35th Street in Florence, John Griffin, U. S. Pickleball Association ambassador, will provide four, 30-minute pickleball clinics with instruction beginning at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. The clinics will each be followed with pickleball play time. All ages are welcome. No experience is necessary, and all equipment will be provided. Mary McNutt, certified yoga instruc- tor, will offer two, 45-minute Yoga for Vitality classes at the Florence Senior Center, 1570 Kingwood Street. Sessions will run from 10:15 to 11 a.m., and 11:15 a.m. to noon. Western Lane Community Foundation grant applications for 2019 now available Western Lane Community Foundation has announced the beginning of its 2019 grant cy- cle with the availability of the Grant Application. Applications can be found on its website located at www.wlcf online.org. Each year, WLCF awards several grants to local non-profit organizations for projects/programs in its target area of western Lane County. Grants are awarded in the ar- eas of education, medicine and science, the arts, and social and civic services. In 2018, more than $73,000 was awarded to several of these worthy causes. The annual amount to be awarded is determined by the performance of the invested portfolio of discretionary funds during the current year. Grant requests for the 2019 grant cycle will be accepted be- tween Oct. 1 and Jan. 15, 2019. The application may be downloaded at WLCF’s website and it is highly recommended that applicants review the Grant Guidelines included there.
