8A | SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2018 | SIUSLAW NEWS Peters photo featured on cover of new Central Coast Connection The Central Coast Connection is in the mail this week and residents will recognize the 28th edition by its cover photo of the Milky Way by local photographer Curt Pe- ters. Florence’s locally produced business directory and phone book chose Peters’ work from more than 40 entries in a con- test co-ordinated by the Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA) in July. Peters, owner of Digital Dunes Photog- raphy, was one of more than two dozen photographers who entered the contest and was awarded $300 as the winner. The oth- er two finalists were Stephanie Ames and Deborah Cardone. Kristin Anderson, President of FRAA, described the process as follows: “Artists submitted their artwork to FRAA, who then provided all the entries anonymous- ly to Pacific Publishing a local company owned by Jon and Pam Thompson. The company’s general manager, Patrick Loo- ney, and staff members, chose the photo because it uniquely captured a spectacular nighttime view of the central Oregon Coast and Looney designed the cover in an effort that best displayed the photo. Peters submitted a time-delay photo- graph of the Milky Way as seen looking This year's cover of Central Coast Connection fea- south from Cape Perpetua. Asked why tures a time-lapse photo of the Milky Way taken by he took this particular photo, Peters ex- local photographer Curt Peters. plained, “I took the image so that others could see the beauty of the Oregon Coast at night. It demonstrated the beauty as well as how tiny we are in the infinite universe.” The Directory is distrib- uted to over 17,000 house- holds and businesses from Florence to Deadwood and Yachats to Reedsport. Thompson noted the Central Coast Connection has a new look and many new advertisers. “It’s packed with local information including spe- cial sections with contrac- tor, restaurant and travel guides, government and emergency information, tide tables, sports broadcast schedules and local trivia. “Phone numbers of your favorite businesses, neigh- bors and friends makes it a publication that works for you all year round.” Who’s Who IN FLORENCE REAL ESTATE Siuslaw alumni to meet for annual banquet Help the Siuslaw High School alumni associ- ation raise money for Siuslaw scholarships and have fun doing it.
