City Club of Florence to discuss public art at meeting Tuesday On Friday, Sept. 7, the City Club of Florence will host a presentation by the Florence Public Art Com- mittee with Harlen Spring- er at the Siuslaw Public Library’s Bromley Room, 1460 Ninth St. at noon. According to Springer, it is a busy and exciting time for the Public Art Commit- tee (PAC). The committee has completed eight proj- ects in the past 15 months, with two more large mu- ral projects planned for com-pletion by Spring/ Summer 2019. PAC representatives will show slides and discuss the most recent projects as well as provide a preview of the new projects. The PAC Mission is to “integrate art into the daily life of our community” as well as support one the City of Florence’s goals of im- proving the “Livability and Quality of Life” in Florence. As an all-volunteer com- mittee, PAC is proud of what they have accom- plished through the pas- sion and dedication of its volunteers and the support of the community. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and light refreshments will be available. All are welcome to at- tend. The bus will make four round-trips each day, de- parting from the Florence Grocery Outlet stop, 2066 Highway 101, making one stop at Carl G. Washburne State Park, then arriving in Yachats at the Log Church, Third and Pontiac streets. Service hours are Mon- day through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7:35 p.m., except holi- days. Saturday service is ex- pected to begin later this year. Tickets are available for cash purchase on the bus — though the driver cannot make change — or through River Cities Taxi, 1699 Pine St., Florence. Membership applications will be available at the sale. Hardcover books and trade paperbacks will be priced at $1 each, with pock- et paperbacks priced at only .50 cents each. DVDs and CDs will also be available at $1 each, and audiobooks on CD will be priced at $2 each. New book bags, with cus- tom artwork by a local artist will be debuted at the sale and available for only $15 each. Cash and checks only; no credit cards can be accepted. The Friends of the Library is a nonprofit organization and all proceeds from the book sales benefit the Siu- slaw Public Library District. Library Director Meg Spencer recently reported to the Friends of the Library that more than $25,000 in Friends’ donations have gone towards the new roof on the main branch that was re- cently completed, as well as a much-needed heat pump for the Mapleton Branch. COM /S IUSLAW N EWS FACC offering presentation on upcoming school bond measure The Florence Area Com- munity Coalition (FACC) will offer an informa- tional presentation about the upcoming Siuslaw School Bond Measure at its Wednesday, Sept. 5, meet- ing, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library, 1460 Ninth St. Suzanne Mann-Heintz, a Siuslaw School District board member, will describe the components of the pro- posed measure and answer questions from community members. Each monthly meeting of the FACC includes an opportunity for agency an- nouncements of interest to the general public. FACC currently has three board vacancies. Board members meet monthly to arrange events and manage affairs of the organization. Anyone interested in be- ing a part of the board can contact board president Sandi Young. The membership year goes from July 1 to June 30. Annual dues are $25 for in- dividuals and $50 for orga- nizations.
