Dorothy was born in Port- land, Ore., on Oct. 26, 1927. She married Allen J. Bartlett on June 5, 1949. T h e y were mar- ried 69 years and moved to Florence in 1972. Together Dorothy they raised Bartlett eight chil- dren and have enjoyed helping with their 31 grand children and 53 great-grandchildren. Dorothy graduated from Multnomah School of the Bi- ble in 1949 and was active in church her whole life. She was a caring, giving person who led a life of loving service to everyone around her and will be greatly missed. Dorothy is also survived by two younger brothers, John and Rodney Findlay. A private graveside service was held Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home and Pacific Sunset Cemetery are in charge of all arrangements. July 27 • Accident, with un- known injury, was report- ed in the 5000 block of East Glenada Road. • Arrest, with warrant, Riggs, 89, of Florence, passed away peacefully in his home of age-related illness on Aug. 4, 2018. R u s - sell was born June 26, 1929, passed away Aug. 4, 2018, and mar- Russell Riggs ried Flor- ence Bea- vers in 1947. They had four children. His wife Florence, and two children (Russell Alan Riggs), and Linda Fay Miller preceded him in death. Matthew Calvin Ridings pleaded no contest to as- sault. He was sentenced to 14 days in the Florence City Jail. He must pay $675 in fines and not contact or be in or about the resi- dence, premises or place of Florence Funeral Home and Pacific Sunset Cemetery are in charge of all arrangements. SEALES—Richard (Dick) Glenn Seales was born Nov. 18, 1935, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Dorothy and Glenn Baird, ad- opted by Jack Seales at age 2. D i c k departed this life on Thurs- Richard Seales day, July 26, 2018, at home while peacefully in his sleep. He is survived by a brother Jack; his wife of 58 years, Mil- lie; three children: Marty, Tess and Russ; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by various extended family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, Aug. 12, at 3 p.m., at Florence Vineyard Church, 2610 Kingwood. Hear from local experts, tour local facilities and learn why things are (or are not) recyclable. The Waste Man- agement Division hosts this course to help Lane County residents and businesses re- duce, reuse, recycle and re- think waste habits. In Florence, classes will be held Tuesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Jan. 8 through March 5, 2019, at Lane Com- munity College (3149 Oak Street). “Because of recent disrup- tions in the global recycling market and the growing awareness that we need to do more to keep materials out of the landfill, this is a great time for people who are interest- ed in learning how they can change their habits and help lead their community to im- prove our recycling practices overall,” said Master Recycler Coordinator Kelly Bell. The Master Recycler train- ing course includes 35 hours of classroom instruction: nine consecutive Tuesday evening classes, a Saturday compost demonstration and two Sat- urday multi-site field trips to area solid waste and recycling sites. Instructors are local experts in solid waste from business, government and non-profit sectors. The course is free for those who volunteer 30 hours to ed- ucate and assist their commu- nities in the year following the training. Russell worked several years as a timber faller for Interna- tional Paper. He loved hunting and fishing and football. He went to many a Siuslaw Viking game. He and Florence spent their retirement winters in Yuma, Ariz. Russell had 10 grandchil- dren, 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchil- dren. A memorial will be held Au- g. 25, 2018, at the annual family reunion in McCleary, Wash.. Burns’s Riverside Chapel employment of the victim.
