FACC to receive update on Food Backpack for Kids Today, the Florence Area Community Coalition (FACC) will host Food Backpack for Kids Public Relations Director Linda Lauck. The program’s mission, “To- gether No Child Will Go Hun- gry,” will be the focus of her presentation. Food Backpack for Kids was established in 2012 to provide nutritious meals for the week- end for children in Florence and Mapleton. Currently, near- ly 100 school children receive three meals for Saturday and three meals for Sunday. Volunteers purchase, store and pack food bags that are discretely distributed through school staff on Fridays. The Cross Road Assembly of God underwrites the program with donations used to pur- chase the food. Join FACC today from 9 to 10:3 0 a.m. in the Bromley Room at the Siuslaw Public Li- brary, 1460 Ninth St., to learn more about this much needed program and its future direc- tion. The FACC membership year goes from July 1 to June 30, so all memberships expired on July 1 and it is time to renew or join. Dues are $25 for individu- als and $50 for organizations, are payable to FACC and can be given to treasurer, Pamela Long, at the meeting or mailed to PO Box 1161, Florence, OR 97439. Membership dues are the lifeblood of FACC. Member- ship dollars enable FACC to offer the community-building activities throughout the year.. For more information, call 541-999-2927.
