6A | WEDNESDAY, MAY 16, 2018 | SIUSLAW NEWS Rhody from page A5 The Junior Princesses have spent time one-on-one with a Senior Princess and had time to develop a real bond. “I want to be a princess when I grow up,” first-grader Aleeya said. “This helps me be less shy.” S e cond-grader Jasmine said she joined the court be- cause she loves to dance and play with friends. She is also a legacy as her mom, aunt and grandma have previously been Rhododendron Princesses. “I want to make people hap- py,” said third-grader Abigail. “I like to meet people, dance with people and help my com- munity.” Fourth-grader Kylee is a “fourth generation Siuslaw Viking” who loves school and her family and hopes to com- pete in the Olympics for gym- nastics. According to fifth-grader Brittney, “Being a part of the princess float in the parade is like being a part of Florence, a part of the community.” As many of the Rhody Court members said, they joined this year’s Rhododendron Festival to connect with the commu- nity — and hope to continue through the Coronation and the rest of Rhody Days. Bartlett said, “Coronation night is this Thursday, so get your tickets today.” Tickets are $10, and $6 for those 18 and under. They are available at the Florence Events Center Box Office, 715 Quince St., and at eventcenter.org. After the Coronation, the entire Rhody Court will ap- pear in the Grand Floral Pa- rade on Sunday, May 20, on a float sponsored by Banner Bank. The Junior Court will also appear in the Junior Pa- rade on Saturday, May 19.
