2 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, MAY 2, 2018 OBITUARIES YARROW—Jean Yarrow, 79, of Florence, passed away April 26, 2018. Jean was born Feb. 23, 1939, in Louisville, Ky., to Eugene and Margaret Reed. She was a married to Howard Yarrow in March of 1957. Jean was a wonderful momma to four chil- dren, grand- mother of nine and a great-grand- mother of eight. She was a Jean Yarrow quilter, loved people and always thought of others above herself. Jean moved to Florence in 2003 with her hus- band, Ward. She was proceeded in death by her husband and her son, John Yarrow. She leaves behind her son James Yarrow; two daughters, Cynthia Yarrow and Susan Jensen. She also leaves behind Frank Attleberger, who was a wonderful friend and compan- ion: God did save the best for last. She will be missed by many. A celebration of life was held at Spruce Point on Monday, April 30. Private inturment was held at Pacific Sunset Cemetery. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. SIDEBOTHOM—Laura Marie Fredericksen-Akers- Sidebothom, 93, passed away of natural causes April 7, 2018. Laura was born June 11, 1924, a third generation native of Florence, Ore. Her parents, Dagmar and Jens Fredericksen, along with Laura’s grandparents (the Thorpes), homesteaded on the Siuslaw River. She loved to tell how she traveled to school by mail boat also that Laurence J e n s e n drove the Laura boat and Sidebothom d e l i v e r e d the mail. Laura worked on her par- ents’ dairy farm and picked daffodils in her parents’ field to be shipped out at midnight from Acme, (Cushman) train station. She worked at the cheese factory, the box factory on Booth Island, the Florence Hotel and a dress shop on Bay Street. Later, Laura became a homemaker and loving mother to her children and many of their friends. She was known to feed “the masses,” always having a meal ready for any- one dropping by. Laura loved clam digging, crabbing, gardening and can- ning, playing pinochle and liked to pass on her skills on to anyone who would listen. She was loved and admired by all who knew her. She is proceeded in death by two sons: Freddie Darwin and Gerald (Jerry) Dale Akers; two husbands: Truman Lawrence Akers and Clifford Sidebothom; and nine brothers and sisters and the spouses: Lars Fredericksen (Clara), Nels (Ruth), Carl Fredericksen (Betty), Gerald Fredericksen, Fred Fredericksen, Edna Sherman, Dorothy Buss- Robinson (Art), Sena Rose- Britton (Kenny), Ruby Lalich (Henry). Laura is survived by her children: Maria Jean Akers Kekua Eaton, Gregory John Akers, Sally Ann Akers; her stepchildren: Roberta (Bobbi) Girard Gamble (Jerry deceased), Donald Akers (Sharon); her grandchildren: Brandi Kekua-Ellison (Michael), Gerald Joseph Akers, Cody Samuel Akers, Alana Girard Ekrem, Peggy Girard Boggs, Julie Akers Toney, Jeff Akers; a great- grandchild, Kai Kekua Ellison; and many more nephews and nieces. We are all privileged and honored to have learned about life and love from one of God’s most caring people he put on this Earth. Thank You mother, grandmother, wife, aunt and friend for the time you gave each and every one of us. We will love you into eter- nity. Before turning in a ballot, voters should remember to review both sides of the bal- lot. “Some voters will have voting opportunities on both sides of the ballot,” said Lane County Clerk Cheryl Betschart. “Once a ballot has been returned it cannot be amended or recast.” Registered voters any- where in Oregon who have changed their address still have time to update their reg- istration and qualify for a full ballot. Voters can go to www.ore- gonvotes.gov to check on voter registration and ballot status. Those with any elec- tion-related questions should contact Lane County Elections at 541-682-4234. He must pay $1,100 in fines. Phillip Frederick Burgess pleaded guilty to Theft. Apr.10 Luke Duane Taylor was convicted of furnishing alco- hol to a minor. He must pay $850 in fines. Matthew Calvin Ridings pleaded no contest to criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and felony possession of a restricted weapon. He was sentenced to 45 days in the Florence City Jail. He must pay $1,680 in fines and not contact or be in or about the premises, residence or place of employment of the victim. Shawn Michael Smith pleaded guity to DUII. He was sentenced to two days in the Florence City Jail. He must pay $2,435 in fines and not contact or be in or about the premise, residence or place of employment of the victim.
