SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14, 2018 Alzheimer’s from 1A go to the doctor for treat- ment, as well as information on the diagnosis and medica- tion. Gershenzon said that con- versations with family mem- bers who are showing signs of dementia can be challeng- ing and uncomfortable. The fear or lack of awareness that may accompany these con- versations can result in delays that have serious con- sequences for the entire fam- ily. Alzheimer’s Association’s workshops reinforce the need to plan ahead and build a care team that communicates well in order to reduce the stress that can accompany degener- ative diseases. In addition, the workshops can connect attendees and caregivers with helpful resources. The Alzheimer’s Assoc- iation is the leading volun- tary health organization in the care, support and research into the disease. Its mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of demen- tia through the promotion of brain health. To finish off the night, Harklerode serenaded Siuslaw Middle School Principal Andy Marohl, dressed in full lunch lady attire, to the song “Lunch Lady Land” by comedian Adam Sandler. The two were soon joined by other members of Siuslaw School District staff dressed as different types of cafeteria food. “We live in a very tight-knit community that is always very supportive of our schools and programs inside and outside that benefit our kids,” Holdahl said. “The night is a great chance for the community to come together and cheer on the youngest members of the community.” RV’ers, PARTS we are your complete RV and SERVICE Students from Siuslaw Elementary School joined district staff on stage for Florence Community PTA’s annual Siuslaw Superstars Talent Show.
