SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, MARCH 3, 2018 Siuslaw News Opinion P.O. Box 10 Florence, OR 97439 LETTERS I MPORTANCE OF FIRST IMPRESSIONS I am inspired by all the enthusiasm portrayed in the Siuslaw News’ “Is Coastal Life in Jeopardy?” series. I believe in the importance of first impressions. I think a big difference could occur with the enhancement of our most prominent landmark — lighting the bridge. A transition with comple- mentary, attractive street lighting would do wonders to tone down the industrial feel of the first block of 101. How can we build this into our esthetic vision? —Donna Mathews Florence J OIN U S I N W ORSHIP BAY BERRY CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP FLORENCE SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST Friday Evenings – 6 p.m. SINGSPIRATION You are invited to come and sing your favorite Ole Time Gospel songs. The speed limit is 35 mph and 25 mph, with the 25 mph being in the residential area. However, the only vehicle that truly adheres to the speed zone is the mail carrier. From city workers and golf course workers, to UPS driv- ers, logging trucks, state and city police, to people taking shortcuts to the casino and Highway 126 — basically everyone driving on Munsel Lake Road — drive way over 25 mph speed limit. There are people who walk that road each day, people who walk their dogs, children riding bikes, children playing at our small park, and even several residential deer. Also, residents who are out in their own yards are scared to be close to the street. There are others who won’t walk along their own road out of fear of the many fast-moving vehicles. Residents should not have to live in fear in our neighbor- hood. I can’t even get my mail out of mailbox until I’m absolute- ly sure there are no cars com- ing. This continues to be an ongoing issue that needs to be addressed. I propose that a yellow flashing light be placed at Munsel Lake Road and near the Ocean Dunes Golf Course club house. And more speed limit signs be put up in resi- dential areas, as well as area where limit is 35 mph. People forget that the entire road from North Fork to Highway 101 is a 35 mph speed zone — and 25 mph in residential areas. A flashing yellow caution light would be a great help for the drivers on this road. Thank you to those who read and apply this to their driving habits on our street. —Pamela Fox Florence Watch “In Search of the Lord’s Way” Sunday, 7:30 AM KMTR Channel 12 Then visit the Florence church of Christ 1833 Tamarack Florence, Oregon PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF THE SIUSLAW Worship Service: 9:00 am & 10:30 am Traditional Worship Service 10:00 a.m. , Reverend Greg Wood Sunday School and Nursery – Organ and Choir All Welcome.
