Page 3 Center Stage Florence Events Center www.EventCenter.org 541-997-1994 Last Resort Players Improv and Storytelling Th eater L ast Resort Players will step out- I t’s happened to all of us at one time side the box on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17 to show- case a game night of silly impro- visation called “Funny Money.” Improv professionals Eric and Aden Nepom, based in Portland, Oregon will bring their crackerjack fun & games trivia to the Oregon coast for two nights. Th e couple are part of Infi nite Improv and have per- formed and created improv pro- grams all over the world, including Mount Olymprov, an international Improvisation Show in Athens, Greece. “Funny Money” is performed by two teams of improvisers while audience members have a chance to be included in the game show to win prizes and submit ideas for questions. Local improv actors and come- diennes from Last Resort Players will join game show host Eric Nepom on stage: Dana Rodet, Judy Kaplan, Victoria Seitzinger, Grant Harmond, Kassy Keppol, Kathleen Wenzel, S.L. Greene, Sheri Susee, and Jennifer Connor will all step into the improv box and join in the antics. Saturday’s show promises a little extra luck with a St. Patrick’s Day lucky money game show theme. Doors to the general admission seating will open at 6:30 p.m. and beverages will be available for purchase from Pavilion Catering throughout the evening. or another - the “you can’t make this stuff up” moment. When the storm is over and you recount the details, no one can believe that it really happened that way. But it did, because you lived it! Th ese are the stories that make up a presentation of B.o.a.T.S. Last Resort Players announces the fouth edition of “Based on a True Story” (also known as B.o.a.T.S.), on Saturday, March 24th at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 25th at a 2:00 p.m. matinee. Told by the people who experienced them, B.o.a.T.S. is a gathering of storytellers who retell their unbelievable tales in front of a live audience. Several local favorites will take the stage, along with some newcomers who will share their “A-ha” mo- ments. Judy Kaplan, Wayne Sharpe, Matthieu Korso, Ken Janowksi and George Henry have new stories to share that will make you laugh, pon- der life and have you on the edge of your seat. Th e game show fun starts at 7:00 p.m. $18 tickets are available through the Florence Events Center box offi ce at 541-997-1994 or on- line at www.eventcenter.org. In addition to the game show night, Eric and Aden will be off ering an improvisational class on Saturday, March 17th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. for anyone interested in taking part in learning improv skills. Th e cost of the class is $20 for individuals. Improv allows a person to express emotions, characters and feelings without the confi nes of a script or set pieces. Budding actors, hesitant public speakers or closet comics are encouraged to give it a try. SEAcoast will welcome spring with their 7 p.m. performance on April 19th. Th ere will be a pre-con- cert talk at 6:15 p.m. Th ese three highly trained tenors have pioneered a signature sound described as “Cin- ematic Pop” which highlights their rich, dynamic three-part harmonies. Vivace will end the SEA 2017 – 18 Coastal Concert Series with their performance on May 24th at 7 p.m. following a pre-concert talk at 6:15. Vivace is a quartet of modern sing- ers performing a thrilling songbook made up of a combination of pop and classical pieces. Th e event is a fundraiser for the Last Resort B.o.a.T.S. storytelling project and future theater productions. Audition Opportunity L ast Resort Players announces a casting call for their summer production of “A Nice Family Gathering,” a story about a man who loved his wife so much, he almost told her. Th e show will take the fl at fl oor stage on June 8, 9, 10 & 15, 16 and 17 at the Florence Events Center. Auditions will be held at the F.E.C. on Saturday, March 11th and 12th at 2:00 p.m. on the stage. Th e story evolves on Th anksgiving Day and the fi rst family gathering at the Lundeen household since the Patriarch died. At the gathering, Dad comes back as a ghost with a mission; to tell his wife he loved her, something he neglected to tell her while he was alive. Aft er all, they were only married for 41 years. Th e problem is, she can't hear or see him. Th e trouble begins when Mom invites a date for dinner. Daily Variety called the play “Exquisite sense of humor!” Another review by Paper Trail said “What makes the play so enjoyable is that everyone can see aspects of their family in the characters and family dynamics of the Lundeens.” Roles for ensemble cast include parts for 4 men and 3 women: CARL - the middle brother, 30s-40s MOM - 60s-70s DAD - 60s-70s MICHAEL - the older brother, 30s-40s JILL - Michael’s wife, 20s-30s STACY - the younger sister, 20s-30s JERRY - the gentleman caller, 60s-70s MRS. ENQUIST - the neighbor, 60s-70s (voiceover only) No experience is necessary and newcomers are encouraged to audition. All ages are “stage ages” and are fl exible. U.S. Air Force Commanders Jazz Ensemble T he Commanders Jazz Ensemble and Travis Brass from the U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West will present a free concert on Monday, March 19th at the Florence Events Center, and will deliver an exciting performance not to be missed! Th is group of highly-trained pro- fessional musicians, formed from 18 active duty Airmen, delivers the full gamut of jazz music - traditional jazz, cool, bop, swing, Broadway favorites, and patriotic music. Th e members of the Commanders are all profession- al Air Force musicians working in support of Air Force and Air Mobility Command offi cial military recruiting and community relations objectives.
