6 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2018 Coast Radio holds Winter Auction this Friday, Saturday More than 150 items will be sold to the highest bidder Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9 and 10, during Coast Radio’s annual Winter Auction. Whether a local resident or just visiting, listeners will be eligible to bid and save up to thousands of dollars on items. The list of auction items is long and includes a Muse Hearing instrument, artwork, freezer, furniture, bedding, lodging, entertainment options, paint, tools, dozens of gift certificates and a used boat and trailer. Visit www.kcst.com to see the entire list. Because it is not a charity auction, Coast Radio General Manager Jon Thompson says buyers will reap the benefits of purchasing more than $30,000 worth of goods and services at sometimes extreme discounts. “Everything comes from our advertisers,” says Thompson, “They barter mer- chandise for additional adver- tising, then we pass it on at a discount to our listeners.” Bidding will begin Friday at 9:15 a.m. and continue until the first 100 items are sold that day — likely around 2 or 3 p.m. The final 50-plus items will be sold the next day, Saturday, starting at 9:10 a.m. and con- tinuing until everything is gone. The average discounts range around 40 percent to 50 per- cent, according to Thompson. COURTESY PHOTOS Coast Radio’s annual Winter Auction features a wide variety of items, including a used boat and trailer (above). But, he added, “We’ve sold items for much less.” A complete list of auction items can be found in today’s Siuslaw News. Items are num- bered, making it easier to fol- low along. Thompson said some listen- ers have told him they spend all day, both days, listening for the best value. Others will keep track of what item is up for sale, double check the list, and then tune in seriously when something comes up they want to buy. Bidding is simple, but it can be even simpler by pre-regis- ter. To do that, just call KCST at 541-997-9136 during regu- lar business hours prior to Friday morning. “It does not cost you any- thing, nor does it obligate you to purchase anything,” said Thompson. “By pre-register- ing, you get a unique bid num- ber and you give that to our operators when you bid instead of having to give us your full name and phone number each time.” The auction airs on KCST 106.9 FM and KCFM AM1250/FM 104.1/FM 103.1. The regular format on both stations will be suspended dur- ing bidding. “We keep three items active on the block at any one time,” Thompson said. “We describe them, invite bidders to call, and then after a few minutes we will close it out.” Some items prove extreme- ly popular and often bidders will get competitive. When that happens, the item will stay active until all the bidders drop out except the winner. The station maintains a phone room with plenty of lines and operators to take the bids and record the sales. Winning bidders will need to pick up their buy at the sta- tion, 4480 Highway 101, dur- ing regular business hours, within 10 days. Winners can pay with cash, local check or with a Visa or Mastercard. Coast Radio’s annual Winter Auction features a wide variety of items with a broad value. Items will range from less than $40 to almost $4,000 in value. But, Thompson said, “You’ll only want to focus on how much you save.” Film screening to raise funds for local immigrants Florence ORganizes (FOR) Human Rights Team will be hosting a fundraising event for local DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) immi- grant youth at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at City Lights Cinemas. The event will be held in conjunction with the showing of “Dolores,” an inspiring doc- umentary about Dolores Huerta, United Farm Workers organizer and women’s rights advocate. Food from Rosa’s Restaurant, Ixtapa, Los Compadres and Traveler’s Cove will be served with a suggested $5 to $10 donation. The funds will be used for citizenship filing and applica- tion fees. Florence’s local DACA advocate, Karla Sanders, will give a short presentation before the film. The event begins at 2 p.m. and the film shows at 3 p.m. The film price is separate from the DACA donations. If you cannot attend the event, but would still like to donate, contact florenceorga- nizesemail@gmail.com or send donations to the “Coastal Dreamers” at Oregon Pacific Bank. Checks can be made out to “Coastal Dreamers.” For more information, con- tact FOR member Leonora Kent at 541-515-8191. 101 Barbershop WELCOMES DWIGHT MONTGOMERY Dwight has over 40 years experience in Barber Cuts Please stop in and welcome Dwight to 101 Barbershop His hours are Mon - Fri 8 - 5 541-902-9588 396 Highway 101, Florence Senior Class Fish Fry Tuesday, February 20th 5:30 - 8:00 PM All you can eat Fish (or Chicken) and Chips, Non alcoholic beverage and cobbler Mo’s Restaurant - Florence Adults $12.50 Children $6 o!
