2 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2018 OBITUARIES BRUNETTE —Maude Brunette, 95, of Florence, passed way Jan. 23, 2018. Maude was born in Liverpool, England, in 1923. At the outbreak of World War Maude II, she Brunette joined the Woman’s Air Force (WAF) and served throughout the war as a radar operator on the south coast of England. In 1944, she supported the Normandy Invasion, married an American and moved to California, where she and Bill started a family with a daugh- ter and a son. In 1955, Maude and her family moved to Paris for a year and then to Casablanca in Morocco. Then, in 1958, while living in Germany for four years, she became an accomplished equestrian, tak- ing up dressage and fox hunt- ing. She was conversant in both French and German. In the 1960s, she moved to Charleston, SC., Frederick, MD, and Los Angeles, Calf., where she taught preschool. Then, with a move to Dallas, Texas, she started the Brunette Riding School. Maude and Bill moved to England and lived in Oxfordshire for two years and then returned to live in south- ern Arizona. Widowed at 47, Maude moved to Florence, Italy, and studied Renaissance art and became conversant in basic Italian. She returned to the States and lived in Hanover, NH., where she lived for more than 10 years. She became a licensed bartender, a model for Dartmouth art classes, and developed a line of handmade clothing which she marketed throughout New England. The “Tunic Lady,” as she came to be known, finally set- tled in 1988 in Florence, Ore., where she lived for the next 30 years while continuing her clothing line until she retired in 2005 at the age of 82. Maude is survived by her older brother Frank; her son, Edward; six grandchil- dren and six great-grandchil- dren. MUELLER—It is with great sadness that the family of John Philip Mueller, 80, announces his passing on Feb. 1, 2018, after a two-year battle with cancer. John will John Mueller be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Bonnie; his children: Jennifer Mueller, Jaelene (Steven) Goodman and Jack (Alysa) Mueller; his three grandchil- dren: Katie, Vincent and Rebecca; as well as other family members and innumer- able friends. Port to hold third public input meeting tonight On Feb. 7, the Port of Siuslaw Commissioners will hold a public input meeting at 5 p.m. at the port’s conference room, 100 Harbor St. The meeting is a free-for-all for the public to share ideas for projects, improvements and activities for the Port Commission to consider. Following the public input session, the board will review proposals for Mo’s building repairs then meet in executive session per ORS 192.660(2)(a) to review applications for the port man- ager position.
