We release endorphins when we feel good, and winning feels good to players and specta- tors alike. You need only to look at the faces of spectators and players immediately after the contest; we know the outcome by the look on their faces. I would like to test this attitude with a simple situa- tion. Please do not read ahead and, instead, respond with your emotions when asked. Just think of them in your head, there is no need to write them down and be honest with yourself and LITTLE 3B T IDE T ABLE B Y N ED H ICKSON Entrance Siuslaw River Siuslaw News SENIOR DUAL S IUSLAW 5:30 P . Mapleton took control of its game with McKenzie early, utiliz- ing a combination of high-pressure defense and scoring from both inside and outside the arc. “We felt confident we could win as long as we executed and played four quarters of basketball,” said Mapleton coach Eric Wolgamott. “The guys played hard the whole way and stayed very focused.” By halftime, the Sailors held a 25- 17 lead and never relinquished their advantage throughout the second half despite increased pressure from the Eagles. Early in the third quarter, senior post Dominic Wells nabbed a steal and scored on a fastbreak for the first basket of the half. But McKenzie responded, scoring the next 6 points before sophomore post Nate Neece grabbed an offensive rebound that sparked an 8-point Mapleton scoring run. Siuslaw junior guard Madison Reynolds nabs a loose ball for the Lady Viks. In the girls game, North Bend junior Haley Edwards gave the Lady Vikings a tough time in double-digit scoring, although Siuslaw freshman guard Brea Blankenship nearly matched Edwards’ 14 points with 12 of her own.
