Mapleton opened the league season
Tuesday night at home against
Mohawk, with the boys’ team landing
a 46-36 win over the Mustangs.
Junior post Gabe Simington domi-
nated the paint to lead the Sailors in
scoring with 13 points, helping secure
the team’s first win of the season and
put Mapleton (1-3) at 1-0 to open the
Mountain West League.
The Lady Sailors (0-4) fell to
Mohawk that night, 49-15, with soph-
omore Heather McMaster-Willis scor-
ing 9 points for Mapleton.
Thursday, Mapleton was back on its
home court to host Lowell. The Red
Devils won both match-ups, beginning
with the girls’ game.
Mapleton junior Erin Michael led
the Lady Sailors, scoring 11 of the
team’s 15 points, with Lowell getting
the win, 40-15.
Afterward, the Mapleton boys team
fell to the Red Devils, 48-33.
Last night, Mapleton hosted its third
game of the week, taking on Reedsport
(after press deadlines), in non-league
competition.
The Sailors will get a short break
before returning to the hardwood on
Wednesday, Dec. 20, when they’ll be
on the road at Yoncalla, beginning
with the girls game at 6 p.m.
