Ensemble is composed of Celebration Concert in Military Museum and City Lights to treat Coastie kids The Oregon Coast Military Museum is partnering with City Lights Cinemas to provide free tickets to the families of the United States Coast Guard Station Siuslaw River, for the Thursday, Dec. 7, viewing of the classic Christmas movie “A Christmas Story.” The story is set in 1940s America and features many of the traditions of the holiday season, including visits to Santa, the Christmas dinner, and of course a boy’s dream of owning a BB gun. KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS The movie was produced in 1983 and stars Darren McGavin as the father who must guide his family through the wintery perils of the season. “The museum’s board is anxious to continue the efforts to support and thank our Coast Guard family here in Florence, particularly in light of the Coast Guard City designation received earlier this year,” Oregon Coast Military Museum Executive Director Cal Applebee said. “Mayor Joe Henry, who is our board treasurer, proposed we do something for the fami- lies for the holidays, and board president Wayne Sharpe approached City Lights Cinemas with the idea of par- ticipating,” Applebee said. Michael Falter, co-owner of City Lights Cinemas, said, “We are glad to partner with the museum to support our Coast Guard Families,” and stepped up with the donation of the tickets for the Pearl Harbor Day viewing of the movie. Joe Henry reminded the board that the community needs to continually support the USCG Station Siuslaw River throughout the years to maintain the Coast Guard City status. “Besides, they are a signifi- cant part of our community and we want to make sure they know we appreciate them,” Henry said. The Oregon Coast Military Museum is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to pre- serving and honoring the histo- ry and service of veterans from every military branch. Located at 2145 Kingwood Street, the museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Saturday. The website is www.oregon coastmilitarymuseum.com. City Lights Cinemas is located at 1930 Highway 101. B OY S COUTS TO HOLD ANNUAL P ANCAKE B REAKFAST Voice Your Opinion!
