SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2017 Club gets ‘Cool Yule’ 9 A Spirituali-Tea to discuss body, spirit This Monday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 p.m., all are invited to join a group of people who enjoy find- ing the common grounds in diverse spiritual thoughts and paths. The group’s desire is to trust one’s own path enough to be open to the value of the thoughts and paths of others. The topic for Monday’s gathering is the soul being the intermediary between the body and the spirit. The Baha’i Writings say, “You perceive how the soul is the intermediary between the body and the spirit. In like manner is this tree the intermediary between the seed and the fruit. When the fruit of the tree appears and becomes ripe, then we know that the tree is perfect; if the tree bore no fruit, it would be merely a useless growth serving no purpose. When a soul has in it the life of the spirit, then does it bring forth good fruit and become a Divine tree?” Bring your thoughts on the subject for open discussion. The gathering will end at 8 p.m. with prayers for the requests left in the Prayer Pole in the gar- den of the Florence Playhouse and those shared by the group. For more information, call Suzanne Mann- Heintz at 541-590-0779. Universalists discuss ‘meaning of Christmas’ COURTESY PHOTO oys and Girls Club of Western Lane County Executive Director Jack Davis (left) accepts a check for $1,358 from FloTones member John Culp. The jazz ensemble continues a tradition of celebrating the holidays by raising money for charity. This year, the 10-member local group celebrated Christmas with a “Cool Yule” holiday songfest Sunday, Nov. 26, at Cross Roads Assembly of God Church. Davis said, “It is the generosity of individuals and groups like this that help us maintain our pledge to never turn a child away because of financial hard- ship. The generosity of this community keeps our club alive.” B February 7, 2018 6:00pm-9:00pm Florence Events Center Awards Nomination Form 'LUHFWLRQV3OHDVH¿OORXWWKHLQIRUPDWLRQFRPSOHWHO\ Companies can be nominated for more than one category if they qualify. Pearce quotes Harlan Miller, “Probably the reason we all go so haywire at Christmas time, with the endless, unrestrained and often silly buying of gifts, is that we don’t quite know how to put our love into words.” FUUF is located at 87738 Highway 101, at Heceta Beach Road, and is wheelchair acces- sible.
